Hockey Pants without Suspender Buttons

Recommended Posts

Hoping for any suggestions. So I bought a new pair of Warrior Projekt Pants. I know I should have looked at this before but they don't come with any suspender buttons.

I guess I made the mistake because I bought new CCM Crazy Lite Shoulder Pads with the pants. The pads are medium and just a bit loose (they don't hinder my play per say but they tend to rise up a bit when I play, I feel I have to pull the collar down between whistles). According to the size specs (based on chest and height) I'm a fit. I was also advised they can fit a bit loser. I was hoping to use suspenders like I did with my old pads and pants to keep them snug. Can anyone suggest any options?

Sew on suspender buttons? Does Warrior make special suspenders (I can't find any)? Perhaps try to tighten the shoulder pads straps by shortening them? Or just get use to the looser fit?

The design of the pant (and a lot of them today) renders suspenders obsolete.

You could go to a sewing/cobbler shop and have them riveted in, or riveted onto a piece of leather and then sewn in.

Yeah, the pants fit fine. I guess I just want the shoulder pads to fit a little more snug. The pads are nice though, barely feel them. And that's considering I came from a Sherwood pair that basically had little protection (like this http://www.hockeymonkey.com/sherwood-shoulder-pads-tradition5030.html)

I'll see if I can get use to them, or think about shortening the straps across the stomach.

Maybe smaller size shoulder pads, or a different model may fit you better.

Tried the small, they were way too small (didn't cover much of my stomach or back). I did try the Warrior Projekts, and while they were very nice, they felt much heavier/cumbersome compared to the CL's. Maybe I'll gain enough weight over the holidays to make them fit tighter.

Has anyone every attempted to make their straps shorter? Can they just be cut and re-sewn?

When I've had to shorten straps for shin/chest/elbow I cut down the end that has the velcro piece. And depending on how much I have to cut off I'll just stop at a craft score and sew on a new velcro patch. There is probably an easier way but this way I find relatively easy and clean.

Whenever I have to cut a strap on a piece of equipment I use the same trick that I use on frayed laces... a lighter. It melts and seals the ends of the nylon straps just like it does on a lace. A "speedy stitcher" tool is great for sewing new velcro on the modified strap.

Instead of cutting and leaving exposed ends to fray, just fold the strap in on itself and sew across.
And this seam can always be cut, restoring the original length, if ever desired.
