Help with helmet fit

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone of you could help me with help fitting. My girlfriend has a 'different' head shape; it's a little more round than oval, and it's also smaller overall. She was handed down an archaic CCM HK5 (HT 1 helmet plus cage, a size S), which she fits in almost perfectly at it's smallest setting. She has also tried on my Re-Akt in size S (I usually wear an M, but fit well into an S with this helmet) at it's smallest setting, and fits perfect.

She has tried a Stealth S9 in medium, and while the width was perfect, the length was 1 finger spacing too long on it's smallest setting. Same deal with a NB 5100 in M, and Reebok 8k in M.

I need to get her a new helmet that fits the same as the 2 mentioned above. As we're both students, I'd like to get her something that isn't the most expensive. Her helmet is definitely due for replacement, it probably expired a long time ago!

Thanks in advance!

best thing to do is try on as many helmets that are in your price range and if you find a good fit go with that helmet. Although you cannot to a price on protecting your head so if you need to spend a little more to get a perfect fit then do it.

The Cascade M11 helmets adjust well to any shape head. Try one if you can. They will probably be going on sale soon when the new Bauer helmets come out.

As somebody who wears a re-akt helmet because nothing else fit without pain/pressure somewhere... I'd say look at either the warrior krown ($$) or a CCM V10. The CCM is what I wore for over a year before I got the reakt. It was the least painful option at the time (before the reakt came out). I mention the krown because I tried it on in the store and was about to buy it until I tried the reakt. Both fit better than the CCM, but the CCM will be much cheaper.

How about the fit in these helmets in S? Has she tried the Easton E700/600/400/300?

I don't believe that is true at all. There is very little adjustment for those helmets.

An RBK 4k, CCM V08 or Easton E600 in small would be worth checking into. Those three all seem to fit a bit larger than other models in my experience.

Hey guys, unfortunately, down here we do not have a hockey shop, something I failed to mention. Thus this post here trying to get opinions.

OptimusReim, I thought of getting the Krown for her as well, but again, price. If I were to get something high end for her, I would probably just get the Re-Akt for her, since I know that it will definitely fit.

Stodgy, wrangler, Chadd, I will spend hours looking into what people have written on those helmets you've mentioned to try and see what kind of head profile they fit into.

the6252, is the IMS series going to fit bigger as well?

I have tried on several helmets by Bauer,CCM,and Easton and did not like the fit of any of them. That is when I took a chance and bought a M11 with the option to return it if I did no like it. It most definitely fit me the best with the adjustment stap in the back tweaking the fine fitting for me. But this is just my opinion. The good Lord gave us all differernt shapes of our heads and the M11 worked out the best for me. Hope this helps salibandi.Best of luck in your girlfriend's helmet search.

I hear ya, thats why I also recommended the CCM V10 (or V08, depending on which type of foam she might prefer). Like I said, before I liked the krown and re-akt, the CCM was the only thing that fit my head. I only stress this because you mentioned the re-akt fit her well and it doesn't sound like she's going to have an easy time finding something comfortable - which is exactly my situation too. Re-akt is the only thing that fits me, and CCM was what I was able to live with at the time. If you really can't try anything on before you buy, I'd definitely go that route if I were you. Gotta start somewhere, and all things being equal you might as well try something somebody with a similar issue found to be decent.
