Sharpening question

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me what is the difference between a 60 grit sharpening wheel and a 80 grit ???

When do we use a 60 grit?

When do we use a 80 grit?

I whould also like to know the difference between a ruby and a blue wheel ?

Thanks...

80 grit is a finer grit than 60 grit.

The finer the grit, the more defined edge and finish it leaves.

Ruby wheels are high in chromium. It needs more pressure to cut. The blue wheel has aluminum oxide. Doesn't burn as easily, and cuts cool.

Personally, I like pink. I love the finish it leaves. However, since the hacks in my store can't sharpen without burning the wheel, we go with ruby. Our second head uses blue because it is mostly used by one of the guys in skate rental to do rentals. We would go with a grey wheel for that, but since we also have to do figure and goal on the 2nd head, we use blue.

Replacing the cag one would be a good start.

I know that would be the best solution but we don't have enough money....
