Easton EQ50 Skates vs CCM U+ Pro 09

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I currently have CCM U+ Pros that I got for ridiculously cheap in size 9D. They are amazing skates but they end up hurting my feet after an hour (fine while skating, pain when on the bench) The toe area is just far too skinny. Currently hockeymonkey has EQ50s for $200 and they seem like a good value. Are they good skates or do they have issues with quality like previous Eastons (I believe I read that)? Would you guys advise on anything else?

I wore the EQ50's for about 2 years on and off. I never really had "quality" issues with them. They held up fine, had lots of support, but were heavy as tanks.

The only issue that I had was that the middle part of the scalloped steel had a tendency to "jump" out of the holder while turning and taking a pass or shot in the blade. Switching to solid steel would likely fix this (and was recommended by JR.).

I wore EQ50's for 2 years and had no quality issues with them. If they fit you, you should really like them. The quality or durability issues with Easton skates have been greatly exaggerated. For 200$ I doubt you could find a deal anywhere near as good.

Eh - the skates that people associate with having durability issues aren't the same as the EQ50; EQ50 was made by a different supplier than those (they used to make Mission.)

IMO even before the EQ50's the durability issues were exaggerated. I know they have had skates with issues, but in my experience most of the people I sold easton skates to and people that I played with or coached that used easton skates were happy with them.

I ended up picking up a pair for about $200... cant beat them for the price. Ive only used them for a month, but havent encountered any issues that would warrant worry about durability. They have a wider forefoot and bigger toe box than Bauers, which I prefer. They really aren't that heavy either

I'm wondering how did you guys find the stiffness, my u+ really disappointed me as I really find them too flexible in the upper boot area, how is on the eq50?
