QUESTION: which visor to buy!

Recommended Posts

OP might be looking for a certified visor if he is debating between the 924 and the X100. Both are different cuts as well so everyone's going to have their own preferences.

Both visors will have their pros and cons. I prefer the styling and option of interchangeable lenses on the X100 but I don't like the weight. If you have a light weight helmet it will tend to be front heavy. The thing I don't like about either of these visors is you can't adjust how far you want it from your face.

I'm looking to buy a new visor!

Any comments/reviews on the Oakley 924 VS the Bauer x100?

I have the Bauer X100. It's decent but large, and as mentioned above, a little bit heavy. You can't really go wrong with it though. I bought the x100 over a year ago and I'm still on the original lens, but have a box of replacement HDO lenses that will last me a few years at this rate. IMO it is better value than buying a one-piece visor that will get scuffed and scratched and then you have to buy a whole new visor.

I haven't used either of those visors but I've used the Oakley 901 for a year and a half now. Its been incredible, its fogged on me maybe once on the bench and that was for a split second. I keep it in a helmet bag with a micro fiber towel and the Oakley spray and use the spray before each time I play and keep the micro fiber towel on the bench to wipe it down when it gets wet and its still pristine. I highly recommend buying a helmet bag for it to protect it in your equipment bag. Lots of people always ask me how mine stays so clear.

I agree. Without a helmet bag and microfibre cloth, I'm sure my visor would be in much worse condition.

the single ones arent spacers, they are..... forgot the word.... flushers? they are between the screw/visor. the oakley spacers work on their own

I would look at the Bauer HDO with clips. It replaces the X100 series and with the clips you can remove the visor after games to keep it protected.

This is a very good recommendation. I just bought the HDO Pro Cut (non-clip) version. I was skeptical of the clips so I went with the traditional style. However a guy on my team got the clip version and it seems very stable and is otherwise identical to the straight visor (which is amazing). I suppose I should have known that it was going to be solid considering it is still certified and all, but that's a lesson learned the hard way.

Also, I saved $20 buying the traditional version, but I will lose money when it comes time for replacement as the two clip visor packs are a great deal. Short term gain, long term pain... story of my life.

Moral of the story, do what Chadd says and not what I do. You'll end up with a certified visor (unlike Tron I believe) with truly excellent optics and fog resistance.

I was looking at the long term picture and reduced replacement costs. I think it's a better option if you are committed to a visor for the long term.

There's no question it's the better option. I feel shame.

we've all done it. There have been countless times when I couldn't afford to buy the better long term option.
