Skate Issue

Recommended Posts

I just got a pair of Bauer Nexus 200 skates. I've been on RBK 8Ks for about two years, and decided to give these a shot.

My first thought was how comfortable they are, off the ice. Once I got on the ice, I still found them very comfortable - mostly.

I developed pain in my right foot, on the bottom of my foot where the heel meets the outside edge (but on the bottom of the foot, not the side). Hard to explain, so heres a diagram (not my foot):

Because its on the bottom, I dont think punching it will have any effect. I should also note that its ONLY on my right foot. My left one was very comfortable and completely pain-free (something I've never had with any other skate). I also noticed the heel lock on my right skate isn't wonderful either. But its fine on my left.

Is there anything I can do here? The left being so comfortable tells me I'm on the right track, at least.

SuperFeet possibly? If you have enough volume in the boot to spare for them, the extra material in the heel might give you enough cushion to alleviate the pain in that area. Counterpoint to the SuperFeet idea would be that it might mess up the good feeling you have going on the other foot.

Should have mentioned, I have superfeet in them. Perhaps I should try with stock insoles. If that makes the right foot better but the left foot worse, then maybe superfeet in one and stock in the other? I couldn't care less if they're mismatched if it means no pain :)

I was thinking as I typed that you probably had them already but figured I'd throw it out there. It's worth a shot to try the stock/superfeet combo as the cost is relatively low ;)

I'm at a point where I'm SO CLOSE to having skates that dont hurt my feet, that I'm thinking of trying to find somebody who does custom insoles. Maybe that will help. I'm wondering if my right foot is a bit of an odd shape, since my right big toe rubs against the inside of the toe cap but my left one doesnt... maybe the whole foot is wonky.

I have the same, my left foot is bigger than my right. Try thinner socks that helped me out or even no socks, because a thicker sock will add volume/pressure to different parts of your foot. Footbalance I read has good custom footbeds.

Check to see if you have a rivet that is abnormally long in that area.

Other possible solutions:

- Your foot isn't sitting 100% flat in the skate due to an area that might need to be punched out. Might be in the heel or midfoot based on the location you provided. This part of your foot is cramping or pinching due to being in an unnatural position.

- The added volume of the Superfeet insoles are creating pressure in this area (basically forcing your foot downwards at an increased pressure), perhaps with a combination of having a bone spur or protrusion on your foot.

- Does it feel like you're falling in or out when you're standing on your skates or skating? This could be adding pressure to this specific area.
