Need help finding equipment for big/tall

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 6-3 and weigh 335 and have a size 48 waist.

I'm in need of the following equipment to purchase for myself for use with beginner pickup hockey

1. Hockey pants - the cheapest and only pants I can find are:
--Tackla 2440 Sr. Ice Hockey Pant size 60 = size 48 waist at hockey monkey

2. Can't locate any jock shorts for my size

3. Can't locate any shoulder pads for my size

4. Can't locate any practice shirts for my size
--I tried on XXL from both Rbk and Kamazu and they barely fit with no equipment on

If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I've searched HockeyGiant, HockeyMonkey, Total Hockey and have no idea where else to look.

For beginning stick and puck, shoulder pads probably aren't a necessity.

As far as jerseys, look at a 'goalie cut' jersey in size XXL.

Thanks. I've played in the pickup games already in previous years (when I was thinner) and always had shoulder pads. I like the added safety :)

Have you tried on those pants? I wouldn't have thought they'd fit a 48 waist.

You never know what you'll find at Play It Again Sports.

Any of the classic lace up style shoulder pads are an an option. You can always skip the top or bottom eyelet and spread the laces to get a wider fit. OT and K! jerseys fit much larger than the newer RBK cut.

Hey Wrangler, I haven't tried them on as no one carries them in store but Tackla's website shows that their size 60 specifically fits size 48 waist.

Other folks can check in with their experiences, but I remember trying on a Tackla 60 a year or two ago, and it fit me, while the smaller sizes didn't. At the time, I had about a 42 waist, but a big, but not huge, gut. The Reebok 11K in XL fit, and the XL & XXL pro stock Reebok/CCM 1052 & 1053 fit. Body shapes and individual fits will vary, of course. I've put on a bit of weight, and am still using the XXL Reebok.

I'm by no means the largest here, though, so expect some more members to check in, with perhaps more useful information.

Welcome to MSH.

Thanks very much Wrangler

I also called a few play it again sports but they had nothing remotely in my size :(

I'll try to find a store that carries the Reebok and CCM XXL sizes. How tall are you? I'm wondering if a goalie jersery would really fit me or if I should try to get a custom ordered jersey.

Any idea where I could look for a "jock short" in my size. This sucks!

I'm about 6', 265. I normally fit in a XXL jersey, and use L compression shorts. Here's a look:

Goalie jerseys are quite large, considering the size of the equipment underneath, and the need for the fit to not be tight.

Hang in there, it'll work out. We've got bigger guys than you that find equipment and play.

I'm a bigger guy your size, haven't played in a couple years, but the last stuff I wore:

Pants: Size 60 Tackle 9000z (got them from hockeymonkey)

Shoulder Pads: Bauer Classics in XXL (they don't make them anymore, but I bet you can find them on the internet... Sherwood also makes a similar pair in XXL).

Jock: Never bothered with a hockey short jock, just went with an old school jock/garter combo like this in xxl: http://www.hockeymonkey.com/reebok-hockey-jock-strap-3in1.html

Jersey: Ordered a black and a white practice jersey from here in XXXL player cut (not a goalie cut). They were a bit tight for me with my gear on, but worked. http://www.hockeyjerseysdirect.com/hjd/ak-practice.asp

I am 6'0 and 275. Size 44 pant wearing under the gut!

Pants - If you don't want to spring for Tackla's, I would look to see if you can find Bauer One60's. They made them in XXL and even XXXL! If you can find them in the size, they are usually around $60 or $70 and are fairly good. Tackla's are usually a step up though in protection!

Jock - I use Reeboks in XXL and am swiming in it. I fit better in the XL, but I use ShockDoctor XL cups (insert joke here), which are a bit too big for the Reebok XL cup pocket.

Shoulders - I have not used any since high school, but when I researched the basic Sherwood/Bauer/etc Classic lace-ups fit me. I tried on XXL Sherwoods and they fit, but I did not like the mobility. I managed to find an XL/XXL Farrell padded shirt which barely fit. I ended up selling it a while back though and went with nothing...

Practice Jerseys - basic CCM's should work. If not, you are in a tough spot. Goalie Cuts will be too short. They will be wide enough, but will likely ride up on you with your height.

Thank you so much everyone! The amount of help has been amazing to say the least!!!

Today I ordered the following from Hockey Monkey:

1. Tackla 2440 Sr. Ice Hockey Pant size 60 - it was the cheapest at that size but would have loved the 9000z if I could have afforded it

2. Shock Doctor 213 Basix Sr. Supporter w/BioFlex Cup

I'm still thinking about the shoulder pads and looked at all the links and suggestions you all provided. Now I just have to decide and also try some on :)

As far as the jersey's I found "ijteam.com" actually allows custom orders and will do a 4XLT for me but I need to call a specific guy tomorrow to discuss the cost

I guess the last thing I need some help on is what socks to get (new request)? I'm looking for just plain white and plain black but for being 6-3 any links would be appreciated as always!

Thanks so much, seriously!

Matt
