Eyelet beginning to pull out....

Recommended Posts

So, I have a pair of Graf 735's.....they are my first and only pair of quality skates I've ever own. I transitioned from roller to ice about 2 years ago and these were the skates that fit me best. In fact, i love how the fit and i dont want to have to buy another pair..........so that brings me to my problem. I have one eylet on the left skate that is beginning to pull out on the inside of the skate. When I tighten my laces, I can feel the metal eyelet digging into the top of my ankle bone. The pain is getting worse and I need to find out if the eylet can be replced. I've heard of replaceing old rusted ones, but if its pulling out, has the opening been comprimised and not allow for replcement or should my local pro shop be able to simply replace it. Its about 1/2 way on its way to completely coming out.

Thanks guys !

If the hole isn't too elongated your LHS should be able to replace the eyelet. I would start there and see what they say.

Is the boot tearing or is the eyelet just falling apart? If it's just the eyelet, your local shop should be able to replace it. I had a couple replaced just recently where the eyelet basically disintegrated. The shop just put some new ones in. If the eyelet tears out of the boot, which has also happened to me, a shoe repair shop might be able to fix it, like they did mine.

I had the EQM of a local team insert a strip of plastic in between the boot and the outside of the skate, where he then placed a new eyelet. Good as new :)

yea, I have not had a chance to go to the LHS..........but seems like I can just have it replaced.....thanks everybody. Does not look like the area around the eylet is ripped or tearing. The eylet itself is pulling out and looks deformed. I pull pretty hard on my top two eyelets, so it probably is just bending and deforming and coming out.

However, does anybody have any insight onto the pain I am experiencing? I am almost positive that the eylet being deofrmed and pulling out ( seems to me that the eylet is being pulled inward ) which may be giving me a slight pain where it feels like its digging into the top, front of my ankle bone. It blows my mind that the eyelet pulling out ever so slightly could dig in and give so much pain. Wouldnt the tounge do a job preventing this? My skate tounge is quite thick........so it doesnt make sense to me.

It does seem odd that you are feeling pain from the eyelet pulling out. The tongue should be able to cushion that. Can you skip that eyelet for a skate and see if the pain goes away?
