Dangers of too little volume?

Recommended Posts

At a skate last night one of my friends was talking about the volume in his skates, and how they were too little. When I asked him how that affected him, he said it doesn't generally bother him too much, and that he gets a little lacebite, but nothing otherwise.

This got me to thinking...What are the dangers of too little volume in a skate?

Any input or thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks!

My 11Ks were low volume for me, failed the pencil test with 'em. That NEVER seemed to bother me much, no lacebite either. The fact that the toe cap was made for a dwarf did.

I prefer a skate that is slightly too shallow than spot on/too deep. Zero negative space is ideal for me and I've never had any lacebite issues.

lack of volume may result in a skate that will tighten your foot too much vertically when lacing up, hence resulting in lack of blood circulation in the feet.

I learned this the hard way. If a skate is too shallow then, when you lace up, the sides of the skate squeeze your foot like a vice instead of wrapping the skate around and over your foot.
