Larger sized holder on a smaller skate?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I just wanted to get some opinions on adding a half size bigger holder (Tuuk's) on my Easton RS skates

Any thought?

Joe

Do it. Just make sure you have an experienced tech do it. I would mount the toe normally and let the back hang off a bit if necessary, but if you are only going up by half a size it shouldn't hang off at all. I have a 280 on my custom Bauers. My left skate is 7-5/8 and I made it work. Personally I think almost all of the skates out there could have longer holders.

What's the advantage of having the bigger holders. I mean I understand longer blade but isn't it better to have correct holder size and proper profiling to reach desired "feel"?

You are correct. Going up one size is not going to offer noticable improvements, especially if the toe is mounted in same location. Only slight improvement can be had with toe mounted forward of the cap as skater can get on the toes quicker for a little bit quicker accelleration. If one wants more performance from more blade on the ice, just having a longer runner doesn't achieve that. Profiling is the better and cheaper solution.
