Playoff pay?

Recommended Posts

I've heard that players don't get paid during the playoff, but are players given some kind of bonus for making the playoffs and/or more for winning rounds?

Yes.

You get paid per round and It goes up every round.

The amount you get paid depends on the amount of players on the roster as it's a pool of money that gets divided up.

I think this years first round exit was worth about $10,000 per player.

Winning (and losing) in the finals gets you a much larger chunk.

10,000 per round seems really low. If you're a Superstar, you're used to seeing 80 to 100k per game. I'm shocked it's not higher given how much value the playoff games have over regular season games.

when players sign a "one year contract" for 3 million, does that mean he gets paid the 3 million over the course of the 12 months, or just while the season is on? Never really knew how that worked.

During the course of the season

If I was a player, I'd have any endorsement contracts worked to pay between April-Sept, so the cash flow never stops.

And if I were his tax advisor, I'd recommend spreading out and deferring as much as possible, consistent with his needs for living expenses.

Any player good enough to get an endorsement probably doesn't need to worry about having an income stream in the offseason.

What would it matter if it's all in the same tax year?
