imike92 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 Any skate recommendations?Ever since i started playing hockey(about the last 5 years), i've used the same old Bauer Vapor X:05's and was in the market for some new skates, however, im looking for skates that could potentially help me out because the mentioned Bauers have given me lace bite ever since i could remember. When i play, the pain could sometimes get unbearable, and i just cant take it anymore; I already have calcium build up right above the ankle on the front.I was looking into the Supreme One.6 skates (right around my price range, wont go any higher than 350), any thoughts on those, and any other recommendations for good skates to prevent additional lace bite or atleast give me a more comfortable feel? gosinger 122 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 I'd say get into a LHS and try everything they have - each manufacturer has multiple lines with different fits (and sometimes even different fits within the lines - see X:60/APX/APX2). If the lace bite is your "only" problem you might already be a good fit for the Vapor line, and just moving up within the line might solve your problem. I went from an entry-level X3.0 to an X:60, same size and width, and it got rid of all my lace-bite (or what I thought was lace-bite) related problems.Btw, if you are going for a lower price, go for discounted skates (e.g. last/prev-to-last years top-model might be available at that price-range) or even used skates (so far I have X:60 for 350€, X7.0 for 55€, X7.0 for 121€ and One95 for 45€, so I like my used skates). imike92 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Thanks for the feed back, going to check out my LHS in the next couple days and i've landed on a few options...was never really into Easton skatesBauer Vapor X:60Bauer Supreme One.6 and One.7...Bauer Supreme One100 (if i can find a pair in my size)Are the Bauer Flexlites pretty good?what has replaced the Bauer Supreme One100? i've tried looking online for One100's however cant...they are a pretty old model so i dont expect to find them anywhereAlso, whats really the difference, other than price, between the Vapor X7.0's and the Vapor X 70?? :PWhich one of these skates would be the best bang for my buck, as well as best protect from future lace bite?
Zjack38 46 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 I have had the flexlites for about 2 years, they are very comfortable and I like them a lot if you can find a pair of them 3.0s and up I would get them.

X7.0 = X:60 (years ago) = X90 (today), don't remember which model the X70 is equal to but its a lower tier skate. The One100 was followed by the TotalONE (and then the TotalONE NXG iirc) as the top-of-the-line skate.Again, try them all and go with a line that fits and select skates from within there. The level of stiffness/tongue/etc depends on multiple factors, your size/weight/skating-style/etc, but I from personal experience wouldn't go below a Vapor 4.0 or equivalent on the other lines. imike92 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2013 After doing a little bit more research, i've narrowed it down to a few:Bauer Supreme One.6 or One.7 -One.6 = $199.99 -One.7 = $349.99What are the key differences that justify the added $150?_____________________________________________________________________Bauer Vapor X6.0 or X7.0 -X6.0 = $329.99 -X7.0 = $379.99What are the key differences that justify the added $50?_____________________________________________________________________Bauer Vapor X60 or X70 -X60 = $199.99 -X70 = $319.99What are the key differences that justify the added $120?and Has anybody tried these out? hows that feature where you can change out the blade in an instant? does the blade ever feel floppy or loose? is this feature worth it? easily breakable? Beleafer 14 Report post Posted June 16, 2013 Is there a reason why you aren't trying on CCM, Reebok, Graf, Easton, skates? You should really try on every brand for the best fit.
SBRH1 1 Report post Posted June 17, 2013 I can't break all these down for you because I haven't skated in them but I have seen them all and upon first impressions the price differences are definitely justified based on stiffness, materials, and overall quality. I personally would stay away from the One.6 and the X60 as the superior models you mentioned offer far more support. At $199.99 those aren't even heat moldable skates. Obviously fit is key, it also depends how often you're playing and how strong you can skate. I would go with the best fitting skates and if there are a couple that feel the same I'd go with the ones that offer the most support. I would try more than just the Bauers too, narrow it down based on what is comfortable. Just my opinion. Good luck. After doing a little bit more research, i've narrowed it down to a few:Bauer Supreme One.6 or One.7 -One.6 = $199.99 -One.7 = $349.99What are the key differences that justify the added $150?_____________________________________________________________________Bauer Vapor X6.0 or X7.0 -X6.0 = $329.99 -X7.0 = $379.99What are the key differences that justify the added $50?_____________________________________________________________________Bauer Vapor X60 or X70 -X60 = $199.99 -X70 = $319.99What are the key differences that justify the added $120?and Has anybody tried these out? hows that feature where you can change out the blade in an instant? does the blade ever feel floppy or loose? is this feature worth it? easily breakable? interpathway 9 Report post Posted June 19, 2013 The One100 was followed by the TotalONE (and then the TotalONE NXG iirc) as the top-of-the-line skate. Not sure the O100 was ever a TOTL skate... unless we're in the goalie forums
imike92 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 so i finally got a chance to go to my LHS, and all they had in stock were the Vapor X 5.0...compared to my first and current pair (Vapor X:05 = $70) they felt amazing and the quality just surpassed them in every way possible. i thought long and hard, and realized that for the skates i was asking for, the ones in the $300-360 range, i'm really not that good a player to be owning an expensive pair like that, so im sticking with the $200 price point which includes:Supreme One.6 = $199.99Vapor X5.0 = $229.99Vapor X60 (new model) = $199.99now that i've finally narrowed it down to 3, which do you guys recommend?
gosinger 122 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 I'd recommend the X 5.0. It doesn't matter how "good" you are as a player, the skates are the one thing (next to your helmet) you should not cheapen out on. I justified my X:60 after 3 months of hockey only once a week, simply by calculating how much per ice-session the skates would cost, how many seasons they would last, and so on. If you can't afford them at all you don't have a chance, but if there is any way (like not going out the next two evenings, so you save a hundred bucks) to get the money for those skates then go for them. gerbe3:16 19 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 I also recommend the X5.0. I am skating in them and they are a fantastic skate and at this point are on clearance; plenty of skate for you and they offer good features and materials. I really do like mine and am glad I went for them instead of the X4.0 (wanted more skate) or X6.0 (couldn't justify the price and like the X5.0 tongue better). imike92 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2013 So i've finally made the decision and went with the X5.0's they felt the most comfortable right out of the box, and with the features it comes with, you cant beat it for the price, especially now because its being lowered due to the newer line. SWEET!Thanks for all the help guys!
imike92 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 hey its me again, funny story, just thought i'd share, so i asked my LHS to put a pair of X5.0's on hold for me, and they gladly did it for a week.. well day 5 comes around and i finally get paid, so i decide to go buy the skates (7/12/13). So i get there, let them know i have a pair on hold, and the guy goes and checks. Well apparently some employees dont understand the slip of paper that says "DO NOT SELL" in all caps (i saw the employee who helped me, write it down). So of course, im stumped, i dont know what to do, and the employee helping me that day says that it was a blunder on there part, so he decided to give me the brand new line Vapor X70's for the same price of the Closeout sale of the X5.0's! price-wise, the skates are in the same area going for 310-330, but i got em for their 5.0's closeout price of 260, i guess its a good deal... what do you guys think? did i make the right choice? or should i sell these bad boys myself brand new? Jayseph101 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2013 Hey guys I have a question about skates myself. For a while now my Easton's are giving me lace bite because the boot is too shallow for my foot. I've read that Reebok and Graf boots run deep. My main question is which would you guys recommend?I just started playing a little over a year ago, but my skates, I bought them bout 9 years ago. My friends and I bought up gear then got laid-off so they sat in the box for years. I thinks it's time for a new pair, but not sure which brand to buy.
