Tuuk Lightspeed Edge ?

Recommended Posts

So I got a new pair of Graf skates and I want to put tuuk runners and holders on them. My old pair of Graf's had custom plus's on them which got expensive when replacing the steel because they had to be removed and re riveted every time. I think throwing these lightspeed edges on my new Grafs will save me a lot of money when replacing the steel. Has any one skated on these apparently they have a 3mm more foreword pitch then the standard lightspeeds. How will these feel compared to my custom plus's ? With a 3mm pitch are they that much different then the Graf cobra holders that are currently on my skates ? Please help. Thanks

The Lightspeed Edge have 3mm of extra height front AND back not 3mm extra forward pitch the pitch stayed the same from the prior Lightspeed 2. At least that is my understanding.

Umm, why didn't whomever installed the Tuuk+ just drill access holes to the nuts? They do not have to be re-rivieted every time. Perhaps they just wanted to make extra money off you.

Nevertheless, LS Edge holders are nothing like the Cobras. They are not pitched.

Finding issues with blade movement side to side after a few months wear in the holders. I would try the teflon tape trick to keep it snug but the blade is supposed to be removed easily so that will not work.

Anyone else?

It was my choice not to drill the holes in my skates. I didnt feel comfortable having 2 holes in the skates since the custom plus's have a nut in the front and back to tighten the blade. Has anyone else had these holes drilled with custom plus's and can coment? Does it affect the integrity of the skate?

Can't say I've ever seen two minor holes in the bottom of the boot cause any kind of catastrophic breakdown in the skate's integrity. You shouldn't be worried about it, seeing as the bauer skates with C+ holders came that way as it is.

Drilling holes will not hurt integrity one bit. I even drill a extra large one in front to make access easy with the wrench.

Anyone else surprised at the number of edge holders being used around the NHL?

Do you think it's more for ease on EQ managers

OR

performance feel/upgrade with 3mm height advantage?

I'd guess its the ease of changing steel on the fly

How many people can change every single pair with ease? Not me. I can not see these lasting. Issues with blade wobbling in the holder. I have one player so bad they have to go get them replaced. The boot sags like the old school tuuks with loose bolts.

I guess I was looking at it more so in the aspect of the added height giving better performance gains, tighter turning radius, more aggressive leans, etc.

It does give a much better lean. Drilling holes will not hurt anything unless they are close enough to make one hole. A lot of players will drill extra holes in the middle as to aid in venting. A number of NHL teams have gone almost 100% to the edge.
