Warrior dynasty sticks from 2011

Recommended Posts

I just started to use composite sticks. Picked up a dynasty from 2011 i need to cut it down i figure 3 inches. does anyone know for shure if that stick has the +3 length That if cut wont affect the flex?

and while im here about how long should a stick be? Ive read online top of chest.

Yes, it does have the 3+ inches in length similar to the Covert DT1. Cutting of sticks is a personal preference thing. One of many "rules" says anywhere between your nose to your chin without skates on. Cutting it at "top of chest" would make a fairly short stick for ones height and I've never heard of that guideline. I'd start at the your nose, go on the ice with it shoot around and get a good feel, you can always cut it shorter another inch and give it another go and continue cutting until you like a certain length. Cutting off 4 or 5 inches right off the bat won't allow you to try and test.

MOne is considered a little bit short for most and I cut it at the top of my shoulder/chest/bottom of my neck. But if you are unsure start long then cut, and don't be afraid to take a half inch off here and there.

Stick length is largely preference. I do however believe the average rec player uses a stick that is too long for them. For myself I use a stick that reaches a inch or so below my chin with my skates on. Having a longer stick is nice for poke checks and some people also like them to shoot with. Shorter sticks will typically give a player better control. I found that once I shortened my stick I played much better. The best way to figure out what works for you is to experiment. You can always cut more off a stick that is too long and you can always put a short extension in a stick to make it longer without affecting performance.

An extension will make the stick whippier, change its flex, therefor affecting its performance.

Yes, the flex does change whenever you shorten or lengthen a stick. What I was meaning to say is that I've met a number of people who are worried that cutting down a stick too short then adding a wood extension would somehow ruin the stick.

I assumed you meant "top of chest" without skates on. But with with skates on, that could definitely work. You should also take into account the lie of the stick. If a stick has a higher lie then you might need to chop off a little more compared to a stick with a lower lie.

This link is great, it actually convinced me to take another inch off.

Could easily win an award for 'worst blade durability' of the year.

I had no idea they were that bad...worse than the widow? The widow is one of my all time favourite twigs and I'm not bashing it, but I broke so many of those guys with the blade cracking right in the middle.

I have had dolomites, dynastys, widows and diablos, a few of them. Every single warrior I have had, ALL OF THEM developed cracks in the blades after 3-4 uses. I am very careful with my sticks and rarely break anything, has never happened to me with any other stick besides the original CL which was crap to begin with. There are so many threads about Warrior pre 2012 sticks with blade issues that really I wouldn't go there. I have no idea if they fixed it the new Covert, DT1 AX1 or whatever they call it.

I had a ak27 HD blade that delaminated at the toe. I also had a first gen dynasty that cracked right near the heel/hosel. I can however say that the blade changes they made with the DT1 have been great. The blade on my DT1 has been rock solid and couldn't be happier with the durability of it. I know warrior recognized they did have problems in this area and if I remember correctly, in addition to new blade designs, they also moved where they were making a number of their sticks from a factory in thailand to one in mexico.

Can vouch for the dt1 blade. It lasted me a whole year with tons of abuse (plenty of faceoffs, digging in the corners, onetimers/slapshots practice, etc...) before it went dead.
