Jersey Buying

Recommended Posts

Ok guys I know a thread was made on here once that I read a couple of years back but I can't seem to find it and this topic is coming up for me.

So I want to buy another hockey jersey (a red/home red wings one but this can go for any team) but I'm having a hard time deciding how to exactly do this. I wear my jersey occasionally for chilling with the guys but also for games and occasionally at work ( a perk of working for the NHL) . I don't play in them or wear them that often or anything like that so I'm not looking to spring on the $300 "authentic" ones.

But my issue is I havnt looked into anything since I was a kid and my last 2 jerseys were a koho Roy avs, and a ccm vintage edition Forsberg nordiques. I remember reading that the newer Reebok jerseys really arnt too great and there were a bunch of complaints about them, as well as I'm not sure about the fit compared to the old ones. There is also the eBay market for the older ccm/koho/starter jerseys but I'm not sure how any of these hold up or if I should trust eBay at all. If I buy an older jersey with a lesser players number and name already stitched on it can I take that off without ruining it?

As for stitching my Roy jersey has the full Z stitching but I don't think I'll do that again, it's expensive and there really isn't a benefit to it.

As a side note I was thinking of the winter classic jerseys as well but the red doesn't look too deep and the white looks very off and tannish and I don't know about the captains C on the sleeve or the tie neck. They also have a cartoony look which is cool but I don't know if it will stand up wearing it xx years down the line. If anyone has seen these in person or has one themselves I would love to know your opinion on them.

No one? It sure seemed people were loaded with opinions and facts years ago. I'm the end looking at everything it seems it's about $160-$180 for a jersey now, which imho is a bit ubsurd. I think my last one even with the high end stitching was $130.

Now for the price of a replica I could get an authentic Yankees Rivera jersey or just be out of reach of even the authentic Nfl jerseys. I feel like they're pricing these out of consumers hands. I may pick up the winter classic t shirt though done in that style and call it a night.

Hahaha, sorry that's autocorrect on my phone, it should read lesser, let me edit that. It also auto corrects the name Eileen to dildos. Even then there arnt a lot of red wings players that can be considered lesser.

Phone posts.

EBay is great for used. Lots of people purge closets many are like new. Even if new check out seller history. If seller is not in China usually legit. What team and size r u looking for? I'll try to find u some good examples.

Icejerseys is great. Older ccm / koho will hold up for pu. My team he been using the same ccm semipro set for over ten years.

A red Red wings (i would do white if it were an absolute steal) I'm a size XL with the old ccm kohos not really sure about new reebok sizing but I would guess I'm the same. And yeah I've purchased new from IceJerseys and was pretty happy with it. I was going to put on Zetterberg with the C no matter if it was the new or old style jersey as I'm not too concerned with it being 100% correct.

I saw some on eBay when i looked quick but I don't know the ins and outs of jerseys as I havnt put in the research time yet, and a lot of the front logos on the old ones looked very small so I was cautious of it.

There are a lot of people that serve as US distributors for Chinese fakes outside of hockey, I would be surprised if that wasn't happening with jerseys too.

And yes, you can swap nameplates on jerseys without ruining them. I found an old Pens Mark Letestu #10 jersey cheap on ebay and had a Brendan Morrow nameplate put on it last season. Who, of course, went to the Blues this season, but that's another story!

Is something like this worth buying and having the number and name plate changed? http://shop.nhl.com/Detroit_Red_Wings_Winter_Classic_Gear/Reebok_Detroit_Red_Wings_Valtteri_Filppula_2014_Winter_Classic_Premier_Jersey_-_Red

Also speaking of name plates i heard for the next couple of days buffalo is changing the name plates on vanek jerseys for free.

Hmmm I think you may be right or saving would be nominal. Also on eBay there is just a page full of fakes that say they're from.Canada, but it says shipping is 4-6 weeks and the grammar is horrific

Yeah, I was referring to just changing the nameplate. The number not so much, you would likely marr the jersey (unless you were doing something like changing 33 to 88)

So pretty much all of the places near me and the major places online are out of the Zetterberg jersey in an XL AND they said they're not getting a shipment in for weeks. And the option of buying a blank and having customized would take just as long and cost much more so I looked on the fleabay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Detroit-Red-Wings-Jersey-2014-Winter-Classic-Premier-Jersey-40-Zetterberg-New-/121142086124?pt=U_Hockey_Fan_Shop&var=&hash=item1c34a189ec

How's this look to you guys? It has the big house patch already on it but I don't know if that's a good thing or not as the regular replicas don't have that but they sell them seperate to be put on. Their rep is good but I'm asking for pics of the inside stitching. Any thoughts fellas?

edit: this looks good as well... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350796546461

I decided to buy from a spot called sportsk.com . Trouble is I want to pay half with a gift card that's going to expire, half with my regular card but they never pick up the phone or call me back.

We should have the Zetterberg in an XL. My and Novi's store are the only ones that stock them. I can check for you and let you know tonight.

Ours don't have the WC patch nor the captain's designation - that's all done aftermarket.

I would 100% appreciate that. I'll send you a pm as I'm guessing you won't want to discuss too much business on an open thread.

Normally I wouldn't, but it's a different circumstance because it's not a common product.

I personally love the Alumni jerseys, which is an inverse of the first Winter Classic jerseys Detroit wore at Wrigley (so they are red body with white stripe.) We don't sell those, but Hockeytown Authentics down the road does.

They also should stock the Zetterberg with the patch and the C. I suppose I could stop in and buy it for you if you're really set on that.
