Does the grip on....

Recommended Posts

Does the grip on grip hockey sticks prematurely wear down gloves? I never used grip and i recently picked up a stick and shot with it and felt a little more control on my shot because of the grip. Does anyone else notice that?

I've started using grip sticks exclusively in the past few years. I haven't noticed accelerated glove wear, but then I almost never wear out the lower hand glove and that is where the grip would contact my glove as I use an Oggie Grip for my top hand.

I did notice the extra control on shots with the grip sticks and that is what had driven me to use them exclusively.

i would say no. No more so than any other coating youd put on your top hand anyways (tape, grips, etc). My top hand palms always go before my bottom despite how much more i move my bottom hand.

thanks a lot guys! I just sorta figured that extra friction while moving your hand up and down would tug on the palms and cause premature wear, guess i was wrong!

itll be ever so slight. Most grip materials arent very abbrasive at all. It might effect it a little, but like i said, comparatively its going to be less than the top hand.

I had a bottom of the line mission glove that I put a hole straight through the thumb in no time when I switched to a grip shaft. When the grip was brand new it was too grippy, though now that it's worn in (substantially I might add) it hasn't damaged any of my replacement gloves.

All I use are "grip" sticks. It will eventually wear through palms, but in my opinion, grip is worth having and will take a while to work your way way through palms.

see thats weird to me. was it more noticeable than your top hand glove? I just looked at both pairs of gloves i currently rotate throught (reebok 7k, bauer vapor pro series) and both have more thumb wear on the top compared to the bottom. maybe it has somethin to do with differing palm materials?

It was much more noticeable; my top hand didn't have a hole that my thumb would pop out of.
