Supreme Totalone NXG and Vapor X100 LE fitting opinions please..

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm from Sydney, Australia and here we don't have much skate to choose from.. shops here don't carry all models, only a few of each line then its the top of the range!

I'm currently using totalone nxg in 7.5D which i really love and the anatomical fit really suits me as I like my fit to be fully wrapped with no extra space..

Being really interested in Vapor series and currently have my eye on the X100 LE, though I can only really take the risk of buying it online from US since we don't have this skate here for me to try.

I have searched for days on the forum regarding the fitting between supreme and vapor series, though have not yet found a answer that's confident enough for me to make the move.

Would anyone that have experiences with both supreme and vapor series please give me some advice. Thank you!

If you don't get a chance to try it on, stick to what you know. Why take a risk for an unknown return? They fit very differently.

I tried on the Vapor X100 in Singapore, size 10.0 EE and the APX2 (10.0 EE also). The X100 felt wider in the toebox (which I liked, I was cramped in APX2), and I think I might have been ok with the fit, but I did not like the lack of heel lock (in either Vapor skate). So, I went with the One.9 LE Supreme, as I thought that an anatomical fit with the best heel lock would suit me better. I have since had all sorts of problems (volume mostly, as I have since learned that my ankle area requires high volume, and neither Vapor nor Supreme offer high volume there). I think I may have had the same problems in the X100 had I gone with that skate. Point is though, that I am trying to make, is that the length and width (10.0 EE) were near identical from X100 to One.9 LE. I assume NXG and One.9 LE are near identical length and width-wise, but I never tried on NXG so I do not know. As big of a factor though is volume. If your front ankle area is busting beyond the eyelets, then you might have problems (lacebite or otherwise). I did not consider this when I was buying, wish I would have now, but it looks like my skates will sell, so I ought to be able to cut my losses well enough. Volume wise, I am not sure how Vapor compares to Supreme in this area. Since Vapor is tapered, I have heard it opens up there, thus offering more volume. I have also heard that it is a shallow fit all the way through, so not sure.

I've tried all of the skates in the Bauer line. For me the heel area is the seller for the Supreme to me. Both the Vapor and Nexus line have a heel that's too narrow for my foot and it causes a lot of pain. Supreme line is just about a perfect fit. I'm with the crowd of if it's not broken don't fix it. You should probably stay in the Supremes

Be smart and just get another pair of NXG's. You really love the fit, there's no issues, and honestly it looks pretty similar to the X100 LE with the all black look. Why think of changing what works great now?

Thank you all for your valuable opinions..

Well the reason that I've wanted to change is after reading so many post regarding skate fitting, I'm a bit worried if my skate does fit right for me or there are better fitting skates out there!

Below is some photos I took now and I need you experts to tell me if it looks right. Thank you so much for this..

The last pic I have circled the area where the section of my foot is exposed slight above those eyelets, my question is will a Vapor line be even worse in this section causing this area to be even more exposed???

Skate has being baked and is with superfeet yellow insoles.. this is the only spot I had pain when I was breaking in the skate, now its fine as I find that I don't really need to tight my laces that tight since is fully moulded to my foot. Other than this all other areas are comfortable..

I have custom made insoles, and my foot does the same thing in the One.9. Can't say it's caused much discomfort, just looks a tad funny when looked at closely. My solution is to tie the skate tight on the toes, loose where that hump is, and tight again at the ankle. Waxed laces help.

But yeah, this doesn't look too crazy to me.

That's the volume issue I was talking about. My volume issue is in the same place, but I have compounding issues making this problem worse. If I were you (as I am in a similar geographic), I would not buy anything unless you could try it on first, or get a custom order spec'ed to your feet (ie-VH) and shipped out there. VH ships internationally I think

Minnsy, that's the way I tie my laces now. Good to hear someone is similar to me. Thank you for the advice!

Hi Cosmic, I read your thread regarding Proper lace tightening for ice skates http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/64773-proper-lace-tightening-for-ice-skates-top-2-eyelets/?hl=%2Btop+%2Btwo+%2Beyelet#entry983232

saw the video and images you took of how your foot is sitting in the skate, I have to admit my foot looks very similar as yours though its not sticking out of the skate as bad as you. Have you had a chance to find a skate that suits our foot? Thank you for your experiences..

I highly doubt a vapor fit will; make that area better for you. Seems like the Nexus line would be a better choice.

Hi Stryker, Thanks for your advice and I think I'll stay away from Vapor line. I actually have a Nexus 200 before and my foot was able to sit deeper in the skate, though the area of my foot as above pic would still be exposed slightly above those eyelet. One thing I noticed with my nexus before was the toebox was incredible huge and also my ankle was not locking into place which cause pain to the back of my foot after skating.

I so wish in Australia our skate shops carry more brands and skate models, the largest skate shop in Sydney only carry Bauer and Easton skates..

I will not have a chance to figure this out and actually try on skates until around 26 December when I visit the US. I am guessing Bauer Nexus or Easton Mako or Graf ?? will work. But, I am not sure how much time I will have to run around and visit hockey shops and try on skates. So, I may just bite the bullet and order a pair of VHs, and have them sitting and waiting for me upon arrival. Not quite sure. I am doing the VH measurements now so I am thinking I will just go this custom route.

Being doing some researches for all skates these few days and also spoken to an experience member who gave me lots of advices to help me..

The currently Nexus has a bit more volume, though only a bit more and the rest of boot fits loose (well that's what the pair I had felt)

Reading a few threads about Easton Mako, they seen to be a shallow boot from the reviews I read so I guess the volume isn't gonna be enough for us..

Now to the Graf, from their fitting chart the G7 and 709 model seens to have deeper volume, but I was warned the quality of their skates is a hit or miss. You either get a well made pair or one that's not and bits falling apart..

Graf had quality issues a few years back, but I haven't seen anything of concern recently.

On my second pair of Mako skates. I generally skate a high volume boot and haven't had an issue. I came from Supreme One95's for reference.

@BuzzLightBeer- High volume, in reference to the heel instep/ mid forefoot? I am going off of the "FIT CHART" link from this website:

http://grafcanada.com/product-lineup/skates/ultra-g7-classic/

, to define "heel instep." And then mid forefoot, I define as the area between here and the toe width. I think that this is the area that we are all referring to, just want to make sure.

I am close to ordering a pair of Makos, and then just having them waiting at my friend's when I return, but not sure if I should wait for Black Friday/ Boxing Day for the best deal. I will not be back until 24 December, but I know how skates go (missed out on a pair of Axiom T10s that I could have converted to ice). And if the Makos do not fit then I just drive to where I ordered them from, return them, and see what they got in stock. I will hopefully be able to skate a few laps at the rink in a friend's Mako size 10.5EE (I ave already tried them on- they are a half size too big, I just want to get a feel for them skating-wise), but not sure as he does not play much and is overseas right now anyway.

The only thing that I do not like about Mako is that insane forward pitch, but I think if I just swap out the holder for a Tuuk LS Edge, then I can relax the pitch a bit. I know I could have the blade profiled or radiused or whatever, but I do not think I can trust the people out here to do this, as I do not even completely understand it myself well enough to explain it. I have a knee issue (degenerative meniscus), so putting that extra strain on the knee joint could irritate me. When I am too flat though, I have ball of foot issues (which may be from volume/fit issues, but it feels good to be a bit pitched forward in my Axiom T10s).

People always say I have big feet (they are only size 11.5 US), but I think my feet have the build/proportional equivalent to say a George St. Pierre- they are like trucks size-wise (width, volume, etc.), but really untough (GSP is tough, this is where the metaphor ends), which is giving me problems.

** I wish that Graf did not look so atrocious. I say I do not care about looks, but they just look AWFUL. And I am by no means a traditonalist- my favorite style of skate are Vapors, Makos and RBZs, and I wear Axiom T10s lol. But gosh, are the people at Graf color/style blind?!?! I suppose one cannot knock them for how the boot looks in its contours, but that Lemon-Lime Gatorade yellow is just an eye sore.
