Looking at a New Pair of Gloves: Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

I need new mitts bad. Using some Bauer One70's and they are crusted and worn out. What should I take a look at? Money is not an issue and I'm open to using anything. I've seen a lot of people here using Warriors. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

My favorite current production gloves are the Winwell pro stocks (retail model). They are almost identical to the old TPS R8.

Go to your LHS. Try on a bunch of gloves . Buy the ones that fit the best and fit your budget.

Exactly what you should do, your preferences may be different than mine or anyone else's

i used to to more anatomical/contoured gloves and used a size 14 until i tried a warrior franchise in 13. the glove is shorter but wider than most and it fits my hand nicely and it alleviated a lot of the problems i had with a longer glove. but unless i went to the store and tried on many, many gloves i wouldnt of known. also many of the top end gloves have a customizer for them if you can handle the wait and extra cash.

Which R8s? The original or the newer narrower cut?

Unfortunately for me, the newer cut, but that still works well for me.

I'm working at Monkey in Irvine now so I have a lot of time to see how the gloves feel. I'm loving the feel of the the Eagle 905. I'm a fan of 4roll designs and it's nice to see just about every company has there own version of that design.

I was also a fan of the Warrior Bonafide. I liked this and the Eagle the most. How does the Franchise feel in comparison to the Bonafide? My store doesn't have them in stock at the moment.

The Bonafide is closer to a Narrow fit Franchise. So the regular width Franchise is wider than the Bonafide. The Franchises are more flexible (not as stiff) brand new as the Bonafides are; a little looser and roomier overall.

You may also have the option to get the narrow or wide Franchise gloves. To me the Franchises felt similar to my old Eagle PPF gloves (loose-ish, four roll type glove)... I have a wide pair of Franchise gloves, and they feel a tad wider than my PPF's.

If you have the money to spend I would see if you can get a custome franchise set made with the kovalchuk cuff. It adds a lot of flexability imho. You may be able to find a used pair with it as well. It's very similar to the cuff on thier anatomical glove which I cannot remember right now.
