Update on my Bauer runner issues

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to buy some clear NOS ones. The thing I had read what that I need the next size up steel. I want to install them on a new pair of Bauer skates. I wanted to go to the next size runner and this would allow me to do that. But are the clear tuuks bad like the old clear ones from the '80s?

Okay, read the last entry...

They are fine, as long as you buy an extra set of steel for when those break, and also a extra pair of holders when those break as well. They are quite possibly the worst disaster in hockey equipment ever attempted. Run, don't walk away from them.

Bummer. I know you can use the modern Litespeed 2 steel as long as you move up to the next size (i.e. 263 holder gets a 272 steel), but I suppose there is a reason why there are NOS holders around.

I really didn't want to drill my new skates for the larger holders. Being able to use larger steel on the same size holder seemed too good to be true.

I am having a very difficult time adapting to the shorter steel Bauers use vs. the same size CCM/Reebok, etc. skates.

Why do want larger steel? All your doing when adding larger steel is adding more toe and heel to trip over? There is only a small portion of your blade that is used when skating. If you want more blade on the ice. Lengthen your radius or lengthen your Cag One setting....

Actually, I am having a very, very difficult time adapting to a steel that is 8mm shorter than what I am used to. I have skated on a 271 and now I am on a 263 and I am NOT digging it!!!!

Which steel are you using? Have they been profiled? With 271 I'm assuming you were using a CCM/Reebok runner with a 10' radius? Bauer will be a 9' radius except for the LS3.

I'm in a similar situation as you but I am coming from a 272mm LS2 on my pro stock Total One skates to a 263mm LS2 on a retail NXG. I have the same steel in both and after switching back and forth between the two skates I do notice a slight difference in length but I can adjust to it after taking warmups and a couple of shifts.

Stock steel. I suppose not profiled, just sharpened.

Yes on the CCM/Reebok.

I felt clumsy and ungainly on those Nexus 400 skates. But my foot pain and lace bite is GONE.

Why not use the 263 and get the ls2.1 runners? Aren't they theoretically longer?

I will check that out.

On a separate note, is that a current or non-current runner?

I believe it's current.

LS2 Runner

I don't know if the extra length would even do anything. Technically they are the same radius so wouldn't the same amount of steel be touching?

I am sort of in the same boat. I plan on changing my steel regardless though from fusion. Don't know if I should change my profile from 9 feet to something higher or just go with longer runners.

My green E-Pro is what will be installed on my Nexus boot, that has been settled. My skate feels squirrelly on the ice with the shorter blade!!!

Another skate on the Nexus 400 and it felt a LOT better. I stop a little better on these runners for some reason. While I will save my green E-Pro runners for a rainy day, I won't switch them out for now. I may even get a pair of coloured lightspeed 2 holders or move up to the trigger-removed holders.

Thanks to all who answered for your knowledge.
