North American vs Canadian adult beer leagues

Recommended Posts

Hello, my team has a tournament coming up and we need one more high skilled skater. I found a guy on facebook who says he is "a solid B player and played for 23 years. Never more than house league and intermureals". He lives in Canada. I've never played adult league up there. Is it compareable to US adult leagues or would B be better in Canada?

You have to ask?!

Add one tier going south, subtract one tier going north, unless you live in New England, Michigan, or Minnesota.

"I'm not very good" means two entirely different things in Canada and the US. Depends on whom you're comparing yourself to.
I'm sure he'd be a solid A skater in most places in the US, but compared to the people he plays with in Canada, he's B there.

We had a 50+ year old guy come down from Lethbridge with his daughters' U19 team. He said he wasn't very good. He also said he didn't drink beer.

Sandbagger!!

Don't forget to factor in the "sandbag factor" when it comes to tournaments. Played in the D division of a tournament against a guy that played D1 hockey the year before.

Get him on your roster ASAP ! Having played a few tournaments in Canada I'd echo all that is being said above - especially the note about "sandbagging"

Does anyone else find it ironic that at the minor hockey level, most kids (or at least many) try to play at a higher level than they probably should, while at the adult level, most (or at least many) try and play lower?

I guess I don't get either one, really. Sitting the bench on a AAA minor team doesn't seem very fun, while dominating a D league when you should be a B player seems kind of silly too. I guess that's just me though.

In youth hockey It's because of the adults, they live vicariously throught thier kids so they have to play in the top league. As adults it makes them feel like a superior athlete to dominate lesser player even though they are sandbagging it. People who are narsasitic or have self worth issues will do anything to make themselves look worthwhile.
