Skate Fitment Help Needed

Recommended Posts

nice. what was the size width precisely? I mean, what you would propose to order ?

I tried on a 6D, volume was immense, I didn't even bother lacing them up all the way.

YMMV.

If you have a lhs close buy go there to try them out. The rbz definitely run wider and have plenty of room. I have fairly wide feet and even in the d rbz I felt like there was way to much room. If you don't have an lhs near you then try and order from somewhere that has free return shipping in case they don't fit. Also if they are just a little snug they will loosen up once you bake them. But I think the rbz will be the best option for you based on what you are saying about your feet

1 thi g I forgot to mention, the 5.5D will be Junior Skate, and the volume of the Jr. skates is a LOT less than the senior skates. The 5.5D RBZ70 (Jr.) Fit the length of my foot perfect, but the stitching where the toecap meets the boot was pressing on the outside of my little toe on the right skate, I tried the 6D (Senior skate), and that is when I realized how much volume they have-Way too much for me. No way I would get a 5.5D RBZ with your foot. I didn't think your feet were that small in length. The only Grafs I tried on were the 5035, and I found them to fit my skinny feet pretty well, between the vapors and the Supremes.....worried about the quality and CS these days, that's why I tried on the RS, which fit my feet perfect.

Sorry for the confusion.

thank you so much. your input is really helpful.

Currently my order is on the way. At least I can try Nexus 1000. But I'm afraid that nothing can give me so much flex as it with apx now. stiffness is just fine. top eyelets are deformed.

what is the CS and RS?

And here is the lenght:

I think he meant customer service by CS and reebok skate by RS. How did you measure your foot? You should really measure/outline them with the socks on that you will wear in your skates, also make sure you are tracing the outline of your foot with the pen or pencil completely vertical (dont trace under the foot, trace around it)

I've measured just what feetprint on the paper. will try what you said, but it wont give me more than extra 5mm max.

Yeah not a huge deal, but something to go off of none the less. If you are really 23-23.5 cm in length you are more in the 3.5 - 4.5 skate range according to the charts at this link : http://www.icewarehouse.com/IceSizeChart.html but like myself you have freaky wide feet and a good size instep so it's going to be a pain to get a good fitting skate ~_~.

My feet (measured in the pics I posted) are 24.75 cm for my left (slightly shorter on my right) and it puts me right at a 5.5 size skate - and my foot fits pretty much perfectly length wise into my old 5.5 CCM super tacks. My size 6 vector 7.5's are way longer, my toes are no where near the end of the insole and swim in the toe cap just the width is not even close to being good (nor the depth of the boot).

RS= Easton RS Skates

Started off with a limit of $200, but after a 2 hour session, and then a 3 hour session (trying on skates), I finally tried on the RS (which were $400 at the time- had NO intention of spending that kinda coin)....I had no issue coming up with the 400....they just fit my feet that good.

I also have Diabetes, so I can't be screwing around with my feet (why I got rid of the 5.5 RBZ70), they HAVE to fit correctly.

I have no idea yet - I am still trying to figure out what skate might fit me. I am currently waiting on 5.5 EE Reebok 14k's and 5.5 EE CCM RBZ 80's to arrive. My local shops had maybe two E or EE width skates, and none of them were anything close to 5-6 skate length so I am always forced to order out (myself or the shop). Frankly I am not too hopeful, I don't think the instep is going to work, and if I want to try Nexus 800 (supposedly fairly deep boot) I would have to order from a non-free return shipping website which I am not really wanting to do.

But I may be surprised - both skates will be here this Friday for me to try out and i'll certainly take some pics and post my thoughts here in this thread so hopefully it'll help others out.

Well - here's some pics. Quite disappointed so far, and frankly not sure if I want to keep/bake the RBZ (pretty close to 90% sure the RBK isn't remotely a good fit).

Both skates fail the pencil test - 3rd eyelet and beyond to the toebox my foot bulges (as shown in pics but kind of hard to tell). Based on the insoles it almost seems like I could maybe wear size 5's in both model of skate - and my toes do feel very roomy/distant from the toe box (although my smallest end toe does seem a little cramped in the RBK) neither boot lets my big toe come close to the end of the toe cap.

My heel is fairly locked in the RBZ, up and down motion it is solid and side to side. The RBK I can lift my heel walking around, and it almost seems too wide (I think baking would remedy most of the lateral space issue but no idea on the heel lock). Pumping up the RBK doesn't seem to do much, certainly doesn't lock my heel in any better.

I really think the depth of the RBZ is going to be an issue - the time I had the skate on and walked around some in my house I started to get arch discomfort and general numbness/pressure throughout the bottom of my foot which I always got with my older ill fitting skates that would turn to unbearable pain on the ice (I.E. I would have to stop skating and loosen my skate or I wouldn't be skating for a good while lol).

The one positive thing I can say for sure is that both skates when I first put them on (since they are of course EE width not D) did feel 'comfortable' and I didn't feel cramped in the middle and forefoot like narrow D skates always do so I am for sure going to need EE width skates (haven't tried nexus so no idea)

I am going to call up my bigger LHS and see if I can bring both skates in and get the opinion of the workers (hopefully someone knowledgeable). I really can't stomach the idea of wearing another poorly fitting skate or wasting $200 when I can be patient and just spend more or spend the same and get a for sure comfortable skate ;/

They also look long by at least 1 size. As I posted earlier, do the test for length and get this right first before working on volume and width.

I agree they are definitely too long. And if you get that right first you may find that the width is a better fit because your feet will line up better with the shape of the boot

Looks like a "Nexus" foot to me.But if your in jr sizes....volume may still be an issue

Think you are right my good sir. I went back to my LHS and had a much more knowledgeable/helpful associate there this time and he compared my two sets of skates I brought in, and then found some Nexus for me to try on (happened to be 5.0 D width) and they actually fit my damn foot depth wise, it was amazing. The 5.0 nexus in D is truly a monster of a skate volume wise, and I obviously needed a 5 or smaller skate as the other two posters mentioned, so they are ordering me a Nexus 400 (Bauer doesnt have an 800 and arent making them so unless I order online they cant get me those) in 4.5 D and I will probably fit into them like a glove. The only issue I had was some pressure on my big toe bone (side of the bone/side of my foot) but that might be remedied with the smaller size as my foot will fit in it better. If not it'll be an area I have them stretch or punch, and I should be golden.

Luckily enough they aren't charging me up front, and if they don't end up being a good fit I don't owe them a penny and they will eat the cost. They also price matched some other gear I needed and even matched icewarehouses 15% off they offer, so I am very happy I drove back down (50 miles between me and the shop) and spent some time there.

I'd highly suggest just trying the Nexus on for anyone else that has wide feet (and when I say wide I mean the ratio of your foot length to foot width is 2.5 and lower I.E. I am 9.75" in length and 4.1" in width so a 2.37 ratio of length divided by width). And like the other posters mentioned, focus on length first before anything else it is very important. Your toes should be very close to the end of the skates insole.

When you say 1 size, you mean literally a size down, or half a size? I'm not sure i'd fit in a 4.5 CCM..but it would be very very interesting if I did. Either way I believe the depth of the skates would just not be sufficient. If the Nexus 400 in a 4.5 dont fit right I will certainly try out some 4.5 and 5.0 Reebok and CCM and report back.

You had 5.5's, they looked like a size to big which seems to be the case if you are now considering a 4.5 after getting to a half decent LHS. I hope the skates fit you this time and you are on the right track now that you are getting the length sorted out.

Yeah I see what you mean, but judging by what i've tried on and the insole comparison I think the RBZ would be a half size up on the Nexus..so if a 4.5 fits me in Nexus a 5.0 RBZ might be do-able with some stretching and punching. I am very hopeful the 4.5 will be a slip on and go!

Either way I will take pics and let everyone know so the information is out there for us wide feet peeps lol

i just got some new skates a couple of days ago. ccm were 2 sizes down from my shoe size while bauer and reebok were 1.5. ccm in 6 were to big and the 5.5 was way uncomfortable. best fit in the bauer line was the nexus 800. the 600 was ok but not as good as the 800. I ended up with reebok 16k as these fit the best. I had them baked which really helped. for what its worth I am a 7.5 in shoes and between a d and e for width. my reeboks are size 6d. on a side note they were on sale + anothe 20% off. ended up costing me $185

Got some RBIZ 90s in the mail yesterday and fail the pencil test on the 4th eyelet and the heel. I went down 2 sizes as directed from my street shoe size. Getting frustrated, but will keep trying.Thinking of trying the nexus 800. Any suggestions?

Slayer,

My left foot looks similar to yours. I wear 7 4E new balance and if i could get a size 6 4E i would wear that.

I had similar issues. Started wearing 7.5 or 7 skates to address width issues when i started. For a long time i wore a size 6 nike v10 skate that was great width wise but if i pushed forward id have about a fingers width between my heel and the skate.

I am currently in eq50s 4EE skates and although ive stretched them out theyre still a bit tight right before the toecap.

I tried the rbzs and they were comfortable in 4 ee and baking would have helped widen them more but the depth was too shallow for me. Theres a big jump in depth from sr to jr sizes.

Once i have the funds im going to vh skates and get them custom made. Anatomical toe caps sounds really exciting.

I would absolutely try the Nexus - like I mentioned, the RBZ failed the pencil test horribly for me but was comfortable otherwise (coulda gone down possibly a half size or full size). When I put my foot into the Nexus boot it was as if the heavens opened up and hallelujah music started playing. I've literally never had a skate come close to letting my foot fit inside without massive bulging where the tongue is, until I tried the Nexus. I just need to get my length correct (4.5 should do it...maybe 4 but i'll find out the hard way when the shop gets the 4.5 in). When I laced the skate up, beside the heel slippage from being too big (and I didn't crank down the laces either) my foot felt at home, no crazy pressure on the sides of my feet, no arch pressure, no ball of toes pressure. It was beautiful. I should emphasize that the Nexus is way wider then the RBZ. The D width I tried on was just right and I am squeezed into (not really uncomfortably so) the RBZ in the EE width. Like others have mentioned, you will want to be 100% sure on length, possibly even go smaller by a bit because you can always stretch and can't make a larger skate smaller.

Yeah man I hear you. I'm wearing 7.5 4E new balance but frankly I should be in a 7 or maybe smaller, just when I bought these damn things I was exhausted from work and the employee I was dealing with was rude and made me want out of the store ASAP. Kinda annoying when im trying to deadlift 425 and my foots sliding around, or squatting 335+ and my foots moving, but I just can't afford to go buying $100+ shoes every other day lol ;/

Kinda glad to not be alone in the oversized/improper skate dilemma. I just can't put my brain around the years and years of abuse I put my feet through playing hockey with such poor fitting skates, I cringe when I think about the excruciating pain my feet would be in during practice and games and would literally give out because of how numb/bad they hurt -.-

Hopefully these Nexus will be my cure to skating relatively pain free - if not i'll be right along with you getting some custom skates eventually. I'd love to have the joy of skating with a perfect fitting skate sometime in my younger years haha!

Thanks Slayer. Will try round 3 from RBk to ccm to Bauer. Sucks being at least 500 miles from a shop with ample stock on site. Called a place a member suggested but don't have the skates I want.
