Hockey Monkey

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a pair of CCM Pro Tacks via Hockey Monkey. They called me to verify my credit card and then later sent me an e-mail saying they don't have them in stock :( Does that seem bassackwards or is it just me?

Any one have any problems with Hockey Monkey?

I actually had the same thing happened. I placed an order of about 5 items. One thing wasn't in stock (the cheapest), so they nixed the whole thing. By the time I was informed one of the sale prices had ended.

Had a warranty claim that took them 4 months to sort out, despite my skates being clearly within the warranty period. Warranty rep refused to answer email or phone messages. No response until new rep was hired, then warranty was handled expeditiously.

Had the same thing happen to me with a pair of Bauer skates I tried ordering from them. After 10 days of no activity, I called and they told me they were out of stock in that size and offered me a different skate in a different size.

They run out of stock A LOT. Also, many times their website will claim they have an item in stock, but if you call over there (or drive over there, like me) they don't have it.

My advice to everyone thinking of ordering something from there is to call ahead of time to verify they have what you are looking for rather that risk your credit card being charged, then having to be credited, etc.

One scam many internet sites use is the "bait and switch". Advertise a certain item but never ever have it in stock. Then get you to buy some older model. Classic. I remember they advertized the Stealth for months, even though it was not available. Havethey no morals!

HockeyMonkey is the worst, I have placed numerous orders with them and on EVERY order I have ever placed at least a few things that were in my order were out of stock and they never even bothered to let me know until a few weeks pass without my package arriving and I finally call and find out the items were out of stock, yet they still have the audacity to charge my credit card. Their website is never updated and because of it i'd say half the items on their website are out of stock. I've been screwed by HM so many times, I broke one of my tapered blades and needed a new one ASAP for a game that was only 2 days away, none of the local stores had it and I couldn't find any online stores with it, except HM. So I placed my order, did overnight shipping, and what do you know, it never arrived yet my credit card was still charged! I ended up having to use a wooden stick that night with the wrong curve and got my money back from HM.

My advice to anyone, stay away from HockeyMonkey. www.hockeygear.com and many other stores offer the same selection with much better service and almost any other online store will match prices.

I had the same problem with something I had ordered like 2-3 months ago. The phone is the best way to be sure they have the items you want in stock. As I don't like to talk in English at the phone, I had cancelled my order and bought the samething at another place.

Everytime I called, regardless of whether it was 1pm or 7pm, they'd always put me on hold for at least 15 minutes.

I made my first purchase from HM just after Christmas. Ordered some size 13 Mission skates from the clearance bin, kind of as a trial since I had heard similar comments to those posted above.

The trial was a HUGE success for me. They were in stock, but a screw up with my credit card company required them to phone me the same day I ordered. I called the card people, straightened everything out, called HM back, promptly got put through, etc. This whole process slowed the order down by one day.

They gave me an eta for the skates to get to northern Alberta (Dec 29 - Jan 6 with reg shipping by UPS) and they hit it right on the nose!

Very convenient since I have a practice tonight, the 7th. The skates fit like a glove. I am not sure I would order anything that I might need to return again though...I imagine that could be an ordeal from here.

I consider my experiment a success, I give them high marks for me, and I wish everyone the same success. I expect I will try them again for items I am familiar with.

Good luck and Cheers

I had similar problems with Kemps Hockey. Took order for blades and shafts. Called and said the blades were back ordered. I returned call and said I would wait. Then I got an email that the blades were in but they sold my shafts to someone else and were now out. Screwed up my Xmas gift plans big time.

I recently (about 10 days ago) ordered CCM Pro Tacks from hockeymoney.

On their site they say "allow 10 to 14 days for delivery..." or something like that.

After I placed the order, they contacted me, told me there would be 7 - 10 days lead time before they could ship, and asked if I wanted to maintain the order.

I said yes.

About a week later I received an email confirming the skates had been shipped + UPS tracking n° etc. According to this, the skates should arrive on Jan 11.

So I have not yet received the parcel, but so far nothing bad to say about hockeymonkey. Good follow up and good service.

Also asked them some questions by email, and got a fast and efficient response.

it's online buying, what do you expect... those stores are made for people who don't have hockey support in there area... IE places like GEORGIA where you only have one store and you can not find your size....

These people deal with back order volume all day, It's like buying from ups, they take a box and ship it to you, for all they know, they could send you just one skate...

Don't be cheap, support yout LHS...

A. Some of us don't have LHS (like you mentioned). B. Some of us who do have LHS may not stock what we need/want. C. Some LHS are way too high. I've seen Si Core Grips for $250 USD up around here.

I think most of us do that are able to get to a brick and morter store. With that said, when my LHS's "blowout" price for ProTacks is $299 and I can get them shipped for free with no sales tax for $219 from an online store........... Guess what? My new skates arrive tomorrow via UPS.
