Goal accreditation

Recommended Posts

Was watching the Bruins v Rangers game , Bruins 5th goal was given to Greg Campbell after a shot was deflected off his skate . The video ref gave it as a fair goal labelling it a deflection rather than a direction so in my eyes surely the goal should be accredited to the guy who took the deflected shot ? Seems unfair on the shooter that his shot gets given as somebody elses goal just because it bounced off them . Anyone know the logic in that way of ruling the goals ? Would a goal count if a player say directed the puck with his head ?

The goal might not have gone in if continued on it's original trajectory. Goal goes to whoever last touched the puck, yes, including the head. Unless it was put in by the other team, then it gets awarded to closest player.

Goals have been awarded of just about every part of the body. The last player on the scoring team to contact the puck is awarded the goal. Own goals are awarded to the closest player on the team that gets the goal.

Cheers lads , must admit it had me confused mainly because of the fact it came off the skate . The own goal rule makes me laugh , the guy who gets the og should have to live with the shame of being "credited" with it , obviously it wouldn't count towards anyone's points tally .

what? the last player to touch the puck before it goes into the oppositions goal is awarded with the goal, not the closest player

Yes, B wins faceoff cleanly, pass back to the D misses and goes into the net... Closest player gets the credit

On a side note: The nhl does a lot of video review during the game and some of the names originally given the goal will be changed, this goes for assists as well. Unless Sidney Crosby shot it and there is a slight deflection that's hard to tell, the nhl will make sure Crosby gets the goal.
