Question for LHS guys regarding stock stick lengths.

Recommended Posts

I stopped at my LHS for a sharpening and was browsing twigs. I'm 6'3" and play mostly defense and like my stick a little longer. This means I have to add an extension for that extra inch and a half I like. This always leads to ill fitting plugs that always come loose. I came across a couple ccm sticks with the Hossa pattern that were actually the perfect height for my preference. I asked the employee if it was possible to order sticks with the additional length. His answer was "we don't know what lengths we get when we order, and it was kind of dumb luck that they had a few in stock"

My question is was it really a fluke that I came across a few of these? I know hossa uses a longer stick, but would that mean his stock sticks would be longer too? Is it really impossible for my LHS to order these longer sticks? I would be willing to pay additional cost for sticks with the extra length.

Shops know exactly how long sticks are when they order them, the information is listed in the catalog. Some models, brands, etc will have variations though. For example, CCM has 3 lengths that vary from 75 to 85 to 95 this year. Measure the stick from butt end to heel, it will give you a basis for buying sticks the proper length.

T100s, CCM 95 flex, and some Warrior sticks, are available at lengths longer than the typical retail norm.

*edit; reread that the stick in question was not retail*

If you go the custom stick route usually you can ask/submit for extra length. As far as retail sticks go I usually only see the 110 flex sticks come with the additional height. But other then that most companies SR sticks are similar in height.

You can customize length on custom sticks.

For plugs, I'd recommend installing them yourself if they aren't getting put in correctly. A bit of tape on the plug and I don't have problems.

I think he means "stock," like off the shelf, not like pro-stock, and is referring to the CCM Hossa pattern, not Marion Hossa's pattern.
