What replacement runners for CCM Prolite 3 holders?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I need to replace my runners on my old Tacks 852 skates but can't find any runners to suit the Prolite 3 holders.

Do any other runners fit these holders; Reebok Proformance lite stainless steel runners perhaps?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Mark

I just bought proformance lites for my gf's skates. She has 652s with the prolite 3 holders.

I got mine at total hockey.

I also got a pair at noicing. It was a bit more but because i bought them there they dont charge the additional fee of 20 $ for unsharpened steel when i got them profiled.

You could also look at step steel or blackedge as well.

Pretty much available everywhere still. You can find CCM proformance solids, or lites, or STEP version. Just be sure not to get the SB version, they won't fit you skates.

Thanks for the leads guys. I'm in Australia so sourcing replacements has been hard. There's not a hockey shop on every corner down here!

Any recommendations as to which of the varuous suitable runners perform the best? Do the lites flex more than the solids?

Cheers Mark

Any steel that fits the E-Pro holder will be compatible with your Pro Lite 3.

In my experience I would go with solid steel compared to the scalloped steel (Proformance Lite.) I've seen much better durability with the solids. Oh, and avoid the Rocket Runners at all costs. They are a pain to sharpen and you can expect inconsistent results because of their poor design.

I beg to differ about the rockets. They are not a poor design, they are excellent, light and the steel quality is the best of any blade on the market. The problem is with the sharpeners who don't know how to sharpen them. I sharpen them all the time, not a pain for me.

I agree, I actually enjoy sharpening them

Mickz, what do you mean by better durability with the solids as compared with the lites? I'll stay away from the Rockets because there's only 1 sharpener in town and I've no idea what his experience with these runners is. Best to play it safe.

I've replaced considerably more scalloped compared to solid steel because of breakage alone (ex. from hopping the boards, puck impacts, etc). Of course solid steel is not immune to breakages but I've seen much fewer cases of it (considering the percentage of skates actually sold with scalloped vs solid steel).

Not to single out Reebok/CCM as I've also had a fair share of Easton's Elite scalloped steel come back as well.

Out of curiosity, will the Epro version fit SB holders?
