Need a light hockey helmet.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm playing Deck hockey in a league where i'm gonna have to wear a helmet next season. I already have a 200$ Old RBK 8-9k prostock like helmet who fit perfectly but there's no good ventilation on the rink so it crazy hot. So I wanna get a helmet in the style of the old cooper SK100 and put a bauer re-akt facemask on it. But I don't really want to spend the stupid 200$ for the helm. Can't seem to find anything around 50$...

I found helmet like:

Cooper sk100

Canadien CH 30

CCM pro-gard

Jofa 246 51

But they are all over 100$ in a black version.. ( really need a black one to fit team colors...)

Only ones I found that could might do it are like:

DR:

Mylec:

but they are kinda ugly...

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Pat.

p.s. I'm in montreal, if it could help.

(sorry for my poor english..)

Might even wear it on some shinny ice time..

Easton E700! But remember that you're talking about the most important part of your body: your noodles. So really consider fit and protection before weight. On a side note, the E700 is extremely protective if it fits you right.

+1 E700, lightest, most ventilated hockey helmet I've ever owned (but I never had a SK100 or Jofa VM... i would feel too at risk in one of those). Won't be $50 though.

If you don't have to worry about an up-to-date certification (I saw you said dek hockey, I am assuming there is lower risk of injury and maybe more lax about gear) then you could look for a Mission Intake or the iTech HC15/85/100 line that prceded it. Very well ventilated and, if you can find the right size, will be cheap since they are older/discontinued.

I agree with the E700, but I will say that the inner pads collect a ton of sweat (which is good) until they get saturated and then they dump them down your face and visor all at once (which is bad). Love the helmet, but for a warm rink, it might be a PITA....FWIW, I've bought two of the E700's that were brand new, maybe worn once, both well under $100, from Ebay.

I don't have any experience with this helmet, but have you looked at the Mission Inhaler? In the US, it looks to be going for $99, not sure about here in Canada. I know that's not the price you were looking for but it does sound like it has a lot of ventilation and also includes a detachable sweatband for above the brow.

It was this topic that got me looking around too, and that's how I came across the Inhaler.

Easton S19 or E700. I've owned both and currently wears an E700 w/Re-Akt cage. I've weighted both the S19 and E700 (both MEDIUM with Re-Akt cage) and S19 is lighter, but E700 is 1000x more comfortable. My S19 was fine until all the padding started to shift due to the fact that I live in a hot climate and putting my stuff in a hot garage basically melted the glue used to hold the S19 padding... E700 has removable pads and can be washed/replaced and in my opinion is the most comfortable helmet around. My son has a SMALL Re-Akt helmet w/Re-Akt cage and the small weights more than my medium....
