Dealer to dealer sales

Recommended Posts

I know some of the big retailers follow this board. I have a question for any of them if they can answer...

Our team did a team order for equipment through our LHS. It wasn't a cookie cutter deal, just a quantity buy with a slight discount and a good level of service after the sale. That said, there are a few items on back order that they can't get for about another month. It appears as though those items are in stock at the large retail sites though. Do any of the large online sales sites do dealer to dealer sales? Maybe with a slight margin built in (like 10% above wholesale)? The store I am talking about is a factory authorized CCM/Reebok dealer and most of missing items are CCM skates and sticks. CCM actually has the items listed as back ordered until November. If not, we will have to wait, so this is really just a shot in the dark hoping that this is something that could work for them.

Thanks

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for one of the big boys to play hero for your team. Since they have the product in stock, they can sell it at retail for full margin. Why sell it to your LHS for a smaller margin? There is no real incentive for the big boys to help your LHS out with this out-of-stock situation. At the end of the day, the big boys goal is to put your LHS out of business so next year your team order goes to them, not your LHS.

I don't mean to piss on your parade but as a Pro Shop guy, I can look at this from a lot of different angles. Hang in there, the gear will show up. Stand by your LHS.

Unless the sales rep comes in and credits the store's account and takes the product, don't expect anything.

Then again it isn't the other dealer's fault that they bought enough to have it in stock. Just because they are an authorized dealer it doesn't mean they have to do you guys that favor.

Thanks guys. I am fully aware as to the reasons no one would want to do such a thing. I was just thinking from the perspective of a few less items to put on the clearance rack at the end of the season. Then again, I doubt that Tacks skates and sticks will last that long, so I have no real expectation.

I do know that CCM is trying to source the products from dealers since the missing items were ordered prior to the August release date.

We always try to help another dealer out if we can. Usually the rep asks if we have something another store needs. If we have plenty, we usually part with it. In turn when we need something, they are likely to reciprocate.

And they spent the money to get the inventory, and stock more of most stuff, to have it available for their customers, not to warehouse it for LHS needs. I'd expect big company philosophy from big companies.
