Crosby curve, lie and stick length

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody !

I'm fan of Crosby style and how he plays and I wanted to try once his curve, his lie and his length of stick.

I found a lots of blade etc... but I wanted to have your input.

I think he plays with a lie 4 and with a straight curve like W88 from Warrior.

What do you think ? what's the other brand with a same curve and lie ?

THanks for your input guys :)

Balou

Closer to PM9/E4 (but maybe even with a bit less heel curve?) than it is to an X88 curve, from what I've seen, both in the blade face shape and curve profile. Here's a few good views in a video. Also read on here that Crosby's been quoted saying it's 4.5 lie, but the scales on lie vary, so without context, it can be hard to tell where exactly his '4.5' would match up with what's found at retail.

Edit: as far as I know, Base is the only company offering this at lower than a 5 lie. They jump from a 5 down to a 4. Also, from digging around on here, it sounds like Easton pretty much got everyone to go with their lie scale around 15-years ago, which is where the then so-called Modano pattern was pegged at 5. Earlier it sounds like this would have been a 5.5, by Sher-Wood or CCM's scale from back then. That's why Sher-Wood's lies still list higher than other companies, they never changed their lie scale to match the standardization.

Good point: if you look at the Warrior lies compared to similar curves in other companies, you'll notice that their lies are often 1-less than the others. The W01, which is the PM9/E4 comparable, is also listed as a 4, as is the W28, where everyone else calls that a 5.

P/W88 patterns are much, much deeper than the one Crosby uses. His blade is almost straight.

I think maybe chippa13 means the Kariya Pro pattern. It's findable, but not incredibly common. If that's correct, Nekoti has them in a standard replacement blade. I saw some tapered blades in person with this pattern and it's true that the curve was really similar, and the lie around the same as the E4, but the blade was really really long if I remember correctly, almost Kovalev-pro long.

That Cleary looks similar in blade face, but the curve looks more like a Darby (E13 or Vanek W04), and with a crazy low lie.

Another option would be to look at Matt Duchene's specs; they are very similar to Crosby's except for the curve, I believe. From eyeballing, I'd guess Duchene uses a P92, but it'd be easy to find out since he talked about his sticks a lot in his draft profiles.

From pictures I've seen of Duchene's curve, it's more like a heel wedge with a slight toe kink at the end. I also remember reading it's a longer than average blade and that he's said it's a high lie, where Crosby's is lower than average.

I have a couple Steve Sullivan (RH) blades that are pretty close to what Sid uses. Sub 5 lie and very little curve. Even after Sid added some depth a couple years ago, they are still closer to flat than a retail curve. Holmstrom and Larionov both used really shallow curves but I don't recall the lie or loft on them.

Yeah Duchene seems to use a short stick too. I was looking at Duncan Keith and he is using a short one too but you think its more a 6 or 4 lie ? Im not an expert with that
