Pitch or just me? APX/MX3

Recommended Posts

I think it's how you interpret it. The boot angle is what changes what you feel (he/she stated that they were feeling on their heels and wondered why). I was adding onto above saying they were correct with the knee bend. Sorry I didn't specify, I figure people would read above me and realize. I also do this for a living so might not have brought it down to someone who doesn't understand etc, totally get what you're saying.

Sorry!

Go with the progressive though.

I get ya. I didn't mean to come off like an ass hat. I just wish people would use terms like "aggressive stance" or "boot angle" as opposed to "pitch". Maybe this is why I get "the look" from my wife when I correct her for improper use of terminology. :P

I'd really like to know if Bauer officially states that Vapor has a different pitch than Supreme. Since they have the same runner and holder, the only possible way to achieve a different pitch would be to give Vapors a thicker outsole under the heel, (effectively a built in shim).

If the only difference is the angle of the back of the boot and tendon guard, then that is not a different pitch, it just forces a deeper knee bend. A true pitch difference can only be achieved by altering something below the bottom of the foot.

This is always what my understanding was as well, but there were a few people on here who had echoed the sentiments of the initial response and I didn't really have proof beyond my own intuition of what I thought. The "shim" would have to be inside the boot, because there's no difference from the outside.

One other thing that could make you feel back on your heels is the wider Supreme heel pocket allowing for your heel and foot to settle more deeply in the boot.

Thank you. I had wondered the same.

all this new knowledge is a little confusing... Maybe the heel is making me feel like im flatter on my feet, but to me, it's quite drastic. when I have time, next week, I'm definitely getting the blades profiled. would this "toe-pick" feeling go away?

Hard for me to explain it, but it feels like there's ALOT more skate up front than I'm used to. Strangely enough, prior to bake, my toes were certainly touching the cap. I'm sure the length is correct. I'm a perfect 6.5 Bauer length.

I'll chime in here.......I've been through 4 pairs of skates and tried all of the aftermarket insoles, and had pitch out on my blades. What I always felt was my right foot "twisting" in the boot. Figured out that it's my ankles are narrow, and heels to a lesser extent.

Liked the forward pitch, but it out my balance point too far back for my liking, and that's with just a +1 pitch. With a neutral pitch my feet feel centered over the blade. But what really helped that was using a combo of stable 26 socks and ease fit ankle booties in each foot. Now I feel like my heel me ankle are clamped in the skate and there's no movement. and I use the 55 flex eyelet extension for increase forward flex, which is great because you can still lace up to the top tightly for lateral stability.

But, when I did have pitch it did feel, though slightly, that I could accelerate and get going a little quicker. But I'd trade the stability I have now for that, which can basically be replicated with the 55's, because you can lean forward more and more extension on toe flick.

Skating in reebok 28k's size 6.

Oh yeah - I'm wondering if a whim between boot and holder would replicate the +1 pitch, but NOT make my balance point change?

Also forgot to mention that I'm using CCM Currexsole for low arches. Didn't like super feet yellows or blacks, shockdoctors, or the stocks.

Interesting... I just don't feel like my ankles are moving. In fact, they feel slightly better locked in, in the MX3 as compared to APX. I am looking into those eyelet extensions... Even though I can lace the boot up all the way now, I still feel robotic...

55's are worth it. Never have to skip the top eyelet again, if one does that. And you'll feel less robotic.

I'm now really interested in a combo radius. Anyone have any feedback on them?

Got the CARBON superfeet "installed" today at a local footwear CO. They feel great, are low volume, but costly. (feel great sitting in a chair) Hockey on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week, so I'll get a good chance to "break em in."

Wanted to put some closure to this topic.. Tommy down at Brandon ice arena "profiled" my blades for me. after explaining how I felt in them, he completely understood, and began grinding away..

The difference is night and day. I'm more on my toes now, with an overall better balance. I wish I could explain exactly how he did it, but whatever he did worked well. So, for those of you who are of concern about those shiny new MX3s.. you CAN make them a bit more "forward" to your liking. SCORE!

I really like it. 8'/14' from No Icing.

I don't feel like I have the "in the back seat" feeling I had when I was on 9' factory radius if I get back on my heels.

I had a medium forward pitch done at the same time, which I also know contributed.
