Recommended Posts

Hi, I am interested to see how you guys girdles fit between the shin guard and the girdle (with and without the shell)

Would be good to see some photos,

Thanks in advance :-)

Depends on the girdle, pads and how long your legs and waist are. With 9ks you can adjust the leg pad to the height you want. For total one, NXG, X:60, Warrior project, CCM pro and others the girdle leg length is fixed. I'm 6', wear 14" Rbk shins with the floating pad on the top, a medium girdle and I have a small gap between the top of the pad and the girdle (except the 9ks).

I would like to see some photos of the how well the girdle fits with the shin guards.

Specifically with the shin guard top pice of padding above the knee that seems to always get caught in front of the girdle and is a pain in the ass.

I'm just wanting to see some other people's set ups and maybe how they get around this issue.

I know that you can just cut it off but like I said I'd like to see how others girdles fit.

Your 6" and wear 14" shin guards, those must be really small. I'm 6'2" and wear 16" but I prefer the protection at the skate.

I im 6'2" and use the XL Bauer TotalOne girdle. with 16" Reebok 20k shins. I take the top above the cap padding out of the shins (it's removable velcro). Works perfectly, great protection.

Tighter socks help with the catching problem, they keep the shin guard thigh flap from flaring out.

Taping the sock lightly just above the knee helps as well.

6'2

17 inch 20K pro shins - the shell itself comes to top of knee- the thigh flap tucks under the girdle thigh guard

XL warrior dynasty girdle - comes to top of knee

Compression socks to keep the thigh guard on my shin guards out of the way

Can I ask what waist you are? I'm a 34" waist in jeans and 6'2" tall also, the mx3 pants (girdle/shell) I have are size Large Tall but I feel they are maybe 1" shorter than I would like, do you think I should :-

(A) get the Extra Large (I feel that the waist would be too big for me as the Large Tall waist is perfect) would have to modify the waist Velcro strap system.

or

(B) just get the Extra Large shell?

Let me know your thoughts

Thanks

I have a 38 waist and find that i wish the XL was a tiny bit larger at times to account for the gut ;)

Honestly i think 34-36 is the perfect waist range for that girdle. It's very adjustable (as you know).

I can't really tell you what to get because i don't know what "L tall" constitutes. I don't think you'll be swimming in the XL but it might be close.

Any other opinions are welcome.

Tomorrow I will put up a photo of the MX3 pants fit with the girdle and shin guards and maybe get some opinions on the fit and what the best options are.

My waist fluctuates between 34 and 40 inches, depending on how well I have been taking care of myself, whether I am bloated, etc. I have thick legs and butt, all the time, so these two aspects are going to require a bigger girdle. I am usually around 220 lbs. There is a guy here who is 6'2, 235 I think, who wears a size Large girdle in Warrior Dynasty, so you may be Large, depending on your body type. Is that what you are asking, what is your best option, in the Warrior Dynasty girdle? As everyone always says here, go to the store and try on the different sizes, if possible.

http://modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/67810-new-warrior-dynasty-girdle/

I think around page 3 or 4, we have that exchange about whether to go L or XL. I find that the XL comes perfectly to the top of my knee. The L seemed to want to sit higher up on my thigh, I think because the area around the crotch was being pulled so much by my butt.

I tried on MX3 also, but there was not an XL in stock, so I cannot really compare the fit of my girdle to yours. I think I tried XL Tall, and I did not like the 2 piece protection idea. The Dynasty thigh is not really girdle'ish- it is more pant'ish, which is not ideal for ease of striding. But, the good part is that the shin flap easily tucks underneath.

Here are two photos of me with the girdle only on, it looks an okay fit but when bending the knee it rides up a fair bit.

The waist Velcro strap is a good fit.

I'm 6'2" and around 189Ibs (13 stone 7Ibs)

The only options I can think of are :-

A) keep the Large Tall girdle and get an Extra Large Shell

Or

B) get an Extra Large Girdle and Shell but I would have to modify the girdles velcro waist strap

I only live near a couple of hockey shops and none of them have any girdles at all. I ordered this one (MX3 Large Tall) online according to the size chart but in my opinion the girdle fit feels like it's only a large.

Let me know your opinion guys or if you have any other ideas that would be great.

Thanks

Your girdle looks too short - too much room between the bottom of your thigh guard and top of knee of the shin guard.

I like the 37.5 protective pants. I find that the 37.5 jock pants and Kevlar socks stay pretty dry. I have the short sleeve protective shirt which ends up like a wet towel, but it's fine - i like the layered protection in the areas that each of these items offer.

It's off topic a bit, but I've taken plenty of pucks to areas where I have armor that others don't (the mouth of my full cage, and on my skate fender) that would have messed me up. So, I'm sure in the future at some point I'll be happy to have had the layered protection of the 37.5 protective.

But yea the 37.5 is good, super comfortable material and I use the Velcro on the jock pants to hold up my socks. The cup that comes with it is useless.

I'm gonna go with the Extra Large, if I have to get the waist Velcro strap modified then that's fine it shouldn't be a problem.

I wonder how much longer the Extra Large will be compared to the Large Tall that I currently have, an extra 1" I think would be perfect.

Cosmic did you finally decide on a girdle for yourself? I seen that you were in two minds about what girdle to go for.

Hockey monkey.EU have the Bauer 37.5 gear at a discount just now :-) think I might purchase them.

No, that girdle is the right length. Any longer and the shin guard padding will run into the girdle. I have been using mainly girdles the last 4 years and that is the length I have them at.

I really think you'll be fine. You might have to sinch it up pretty tight but it will be fine.

I agree with x axis. That girdle in the photo fits you fine. My opinion is that the girdle should just come to the top of (or slightly higher than) the hard knee shell when standing. Any lower and it seems like it will impede skating movement, since the typical girdle is much tighter around the leg than regular hockey pants. Heck, mine are probably an inch or more higher than yours and they are fine.

Are you not worried that you may take a puck above the shin guard and below your girdle? Especially when your skating (knee bent).

What girdle are you using?

Thanks

Hmm mixed opinions, now I'm totally unsure what rout to go down :-/ lol

Any other opinions? Anyone?

You should inquire how long everyone has been using their girdles, their experience using them, their level of play, and ability.

I wear the Bauer APX adaptable core pad. It is about an inch above the thigh pad on the shinguard that extends above the knee. There is zero overlap.

I have personally used the Reebok Pro Stock 9k Girdle and the Bauer Supreme One95 adaptable core also.

Think about your body position when defending and the likelihood of it hitting there. If your knees are bent in a hockey skating position, think of the angle your body is in relation to an opponent/defender's stick with the puck. Your thigh is nearly perpendicular to your shinguard taking away the angle of open space.

I decided on XL Warrior Dynasty girdle, Large shell. So far so good.

I am with x axis- ask around for people who have been using the girdles. I just got back into hockey, and have never worn a girdle until a week ago, so I am not the authority by any means.

I also agree that the girdle ought not come to low, and that the bottom of the girldle should only coem to top of knee cap shell. It looks like you have a gap of about 1/2 inch to 1 inch, between the top of the knee shell and your girdle. I mean, if you count the knee flap, then sure, your girdle is reaching to about half way up the knee flap of the shin. Maybe I am mis estimating though.

I play with guys who don't wear shields or mouthguards, wear helmets with no chin straps, and generally feel that they are invincible so take my opinion with a grain of salt:

I can get hit in a hundred spots on my body with a puck that are relatively unprotected. I don't even wear shoulder pads. I'm talking about the level of protection guys use for playing beer league and shinny hockey basically.

My first question for you should have been, what level are you playing at? Based on the photos and the question I assumed (dangerous, I know :) ) that you were playing a similar level as me. If you are playing competitively, disregard my answer, because I dont have the perspective for that level of play.

I wear a Tackla 4500 girdle and it has gaps all over it between pads. I've been hit in the gut, the chest, the hands/arms, and in the teeth with pucks. Its part of the risk of playing the game. We are also at risk of loosing an edge and crashing the net or boards. I've even played without the girdle (shell only) one night due to an oversight when packing my gear... dohhhh... Heres a tip, if you forget your cup one night, dont tell anyone, just play because if anyone else finds out about it, you are sure to take one in the nards.....

I thought that the Large tall MX3 would have been a little longer than the NXG shell that I have but they are exact same length (see 1st photo). MX3 Blue Large Tall and NXG Black Large, same size shell :-(

Here are photos of my CCM Tacks shorts Large, actually the same length as my MX3 girdle/she'll :-(

They may look like they fit at the knee but actually they keep coming slack and slip down a bit leaving my back exposed a bit between my harness and the pants.

Does anyone know the difference in height (length) between the Large, Large Tall and the Extra Large?

Can't find any info on the MX3 pants at all in regards to the Hight.

I had to play with the filters because my shell was blending in with the background, but I think this is how the girdle is supposed to sit.
