Bauer Supreme TotalOne MX3 Gloves

Recommended Posts

Hi Team,

At some point I plan to move from my much loved TotalOne NXG's to MX3 mitts. After review, the thumb on the MX3 is much longer than that on the NXG and looks/feels really weird.

Can anyone explain why they'd extend the thumb on the new line?

I made the mistake of online ordering the MX3 gloves based on the fit of the NXGs. I still like them, and use them, but not sure why the fingers feel longer, and the thumb seems fatter to me as well.

overall fit is still close as in snugness, but certainly a LARGER feel than the NXGs.

I felt like the MX3 was one size larger than the TotalOne, i.e. given a x" glove in TotalOne, you would have to wear a x-1" glove in MX3 for the same size fit. Also, I felt like the MX3 glove was much bulkier than the TotalOne. The bulk seems unnecessary, especially if you play rec hockey. Overall, I was kind of disappointed about the MX3 compared to my TotalOne gloves.

I agree. There is more bulk in the MX3 for sure. During the third period, my gloves are soaked and I can REALLY feel them getting sloppy by then. Probably should have ordered 13" instead of the 14s.

On the bright side, BAUER didn't skimp on protection, as they are beasts when it comes to taking impact on them...

Well don't by the top-of-the-line glove if it's just rec hockey, simple as that. The performance stuff up top was meant for those who need that protection.

The MX3 is way bulkier compared to previous top-of-the line models. I would appreciate it if you were more respectful.

Not sure if being a rec player means not buying top end gear. I'm not going on the ice with cheap ANYTHING. If you can afford it, why not get the best protection/performance gear? Getting a stick in the hand can happen at ANY level of play.

Don't get me wrong - I meant no disrespect. You're definitely free to get whatever gear you want. I just meant that if there was an increase in bulk, it's typically due to that increase in protection, and a less protective glove could reduce that weight (say, the 190), if that's what you're prioritizing over protection, especially in rec leagues where we can afford to do that.

My apologies, tone doesn't come across as well on a typed message.

Huh. For some reason, I was under the impression that people didn't like the NXG because it was too small and snug fitting, even by Supreme standards. Guess it was just me. I own both the original TotalOnes and MX3s in a 14" and like the fit of both gloves a lot. Finger length feels roughly the same, though the TotalOnes are a little less plush on the inside and thus feel a little roomier overall. In the NXGs, the 14" felt as tight as a golf glove and I swam in the 15" models.

That said, I don't feel like the MX3s are worth the price tag on account of the quality. Mine had an abundance of loose threads from where the palm was stitched on (and that was after I picked out the nicest looking pair on the rack) and I recognized the cable mesh they used on it from the god-awful Vapor Pro Series gloves I owned a few years back. Predictably, after just a few uses, it's already begun to snag. I bought them hoping it had been improved somehow, but sadly it hasn't.

A pro stock pair of MX3s will be an automatic buy assuming the quality is visibly improved, but I would avoid the retail model. That level of finish on a top-of-the-line pair of gloves is absolutely unacceptable.
