Graf G5 Defect

Recommended Posts

I have always been a fan of the Graf skate line. After talking to the rep early in the year I decided to get my hands on a pair of G5's. I have had them since August and havent had nearly as much ice time as I was hoping for due to a busy work schedule. So here is my issue, I picked them up yesterday only to find the boot actually ripping off of the sole after about 12 or 18 skates. I never baked them so I dont see how this could be a heating problem. Has anyone else had this problem or experienced something similiar? I have seen it happen with bauer skates, but bauer is an inferior product. My LHS said that they would replace the skates. But I guess even the top of the line skate company employs a handicapped person for the tax break. Too bad for me that he was working when my skates came through inspection.

I wouldn't say that...

Up until November, I had been skating in XXs since they were released. I loved the skates and never really had any durability issues with them (other then the damn perf. runners, that is). It wasn't until I finally took someone's advice and switched to Graf that I began having serious issues - less than a month after purchase! They are going to be replaced, but I'll never be able to have faith in their product the way I did Bauer's.

I should have stuck with Bauer. Now I'm kicking myself...

about a month ago i bought a pair of G3s, at the time I was under the impression they were a good skate and I bought them because I didn't want to deal with durability problems on the Vapor xx

now i see the G series has a bad reputation in the durability department almost making me regret me purchase

hhopefully my skates manage to hold up and so far I have had no problems with the outsole after somewhere between 10 and 20 ice times

Maybe people aren't understanding my post... What I am trying to say is that I found that my particular pair of skates have a problem. Has anyone else had a problem like the one that I have?

It has nothing to do with the one skate company being better or worse than another. I have had the XX's and I hated them. Graf skates are not for everyone. I happen to like them.

And as far as the ignorant comment, djinferno, you have got alot to learn boy.

If that isn't ignorant, then I'm not sure what is ;)

One of my friends g5 skate boots got a pretty big chunk taken out of it this weekend. he just taped it up with some duct take and was ready to go again. I have never seen such a big piece of meterial fall off a boot before.

That's not true at all.

Bauers dead bottom of the line skates are. Otherwise I'd disagree with Bauer's products being inferior.

I agree. I think bauer makes very high quality skates although people have had troubles with certain models. There not superior but they are definetly not inferior to other top of the line skates.

its strange becasue most people who have these problems say they never heated the boot... but i heated mine and i havent had any of the problems that are said to go along with the G series.

I had mine baked which might have led to the inner sole separation issue. JR installing the PITCH holders for me has taken care of that issue for me for the time being.
