Skate help, painful forefoot.

Recommended Posts

So, i've got Bauer Supreme 170's in 9.5D, which i have baked and they are causing me a fair amount of pain on my mid-foot.

I've tried doing the first 3 loops on the laces tight, middle 3/4 loose(ish) and the top ones tight, and they are still bad... After about 30 minutes my foot seems to go dead and they are agony when i take them off.

I was looking at upgrading anyway, so was wondering what would be a good boot to go into... I was looking at getting 1X's in EE as I've scrolled through a few threads on here and it seems they are a bit wider in the middle in EE but i don't know if they will be wide enough.. Has anyone got any experience with this? Or even possibly a skate suggestion.

thanks,

I deal with pain in the same area every time I buy new skates, or I should say I did. I've never tried EE, but in all bauer Ds I had some pain.

I moved to Tacks and they were pain free but no ankle lock, or not sufficient for me.

Then I got over my prejudice and tried Easton M8s. I tried on Jetspeeds too and they may have worked but after I actually got my foot in the Easton prebake, the fit, although peculiar feeling, was awesome.

After a bake they are even better.

TLDR - Try some Makos, you may even get a good deal now.

Nexus skates from Bauer are wider and deeper than Supremes. You could also try Tacks, or the new Graf line that came out. Mako's in EE may work, but I suspect if you need more width than supreme, those may also feel fairly tight as well. Good news is with Mako's is they punch out very easily, so if it's just a few small points that hurt, it's fixable.

Be more specific: midfoot pain? Where? Is it the pain of being compressed laterally or vertically? Do you have a bone sticking out above your arch? Is your arch not supported in the skate?

This pain may or may not be helped by a rebake, a punch, or an insole. We need a lot more info.

Literally the middle of my foot length ways, on the outside of my foot.. No bone sticking out at all. And the pain is laterally compressed.

This is where my foot is wide, and where i get the discomfort - (sorry about the random photo, only one i could find of where my foot is wide.

Forgot to mention i use superfeet yellow.

Howdy,

I had pain in the exact same area. Had cheap Easton Stealth 7.5D (can't remember the model now) and it was pretty bad. Was better in Tack 2052 size 8D. After trying on a ton of different skates in an LHS I was surprised to find that a CCM Ribcore 46K in 8D seemed to fit the best. Other skates were wide enough in the mid foot, but my heel was moving around in them. The Ribcores locked in mt heel, but were wide enough for my midfoot. I initially couldn't believe it, since I'd read so much about how Ribcore == Vapor or whatever and the Vapor X40R inline skates (8D) I stupidly bought just flat out KILL my feet.

Hope you get it figured out!

Mark

Pain in that area won't be resolved with a 1X skate. That skate gets progressively more narrow as you go down the foot. I'd start with trying on a Nexus or Tacks skate. That skate is naturally a wider and deeper skate. If that doesn't provide relief, trying a Supreme or Jetspeed in EE would be the next step I'd take if I were in your shoes (or skates in this case?).
