Easily available epoxy for asphalt

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I searched around and couldn't find a viable solution.  I use old composite sticks on outdoor asphalt because I hate Hockey WrapAround and wood blades seem to last me like three sessions. The ABS blades now a days don't seem to work for me either.

I've read in other threads that applying epoxy to the bottom of the blade can prevent wear.  I live in the states and have hardware stores (Home Depot/Lowes) in a short distance but I have no idea what I'm looking for. The only other epoxy's I've seen recommended are ones that are sold in Canadian Tire.

Does anyone in the states do this and where do you get it from?

You want a 2 pot epoxy, there is cheap stuff and expensive stuff. Personally I don't do this but fat wabbit, a long time poster, has posted about this in an earlier thread. His technique was to tape both sides of the blade with tape overhanging the bottom edge then pour epoxy into the gap and let it set. I might be tempted to try something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Devcon-10110-Plastic-Steel-Bottle/dp/B00065TMTO

and shape it to the blade then sand / dremel it to the rocker I wanted. Or you can purchase the more liquid version and pour it on.

Like someone said get the two part.  In lowes they keep it by the paint.  Buy JB weld quick set stuff. I have never used it on a stick. I have used it on skates, bedding stocks on guns, fixing random stuff like casters on a shop vac, and have even seen it used to fix a bottom end on a Harley. I agree with the nothing lasts on asphalt. I blow through the ABS blades and cant justify OPS. The Nylon plastic blades give to much. A goalie that plays with us does epoxy the bottom of his stick. I think he does it every couple weeks.

I agree with the over hang tape thing.  I have used putty to make dams when fixing stuff with it.  I personally would stay away from the liquid stuff.  It will be a mess.  Epoxy is not the easiest stuff to sand.  When we have used it and need to sand we have used aquatic grade epoxy.  The Two part will be like a thick paste/glue.
