Well, obviously the neoprine crap you can buy at CVS aren't going to do much than temporarily post-pone swelling (and the pain caused by swelling).

The best brace to get is one that helps prevents hyper-extention or twisting of the knee-joint.

The one I got after my ACL surgery had the capability of adjusting it so that it limited extention (so that I could "lock" the brace from bending too far while it was healing). That rocked.

I also tore my PCL (later) and found that same feature quite beneficial.

BUT.... ultimately, the brace should be chosen based on the nature of the injury. There is no one right answer.

i've got the CTi2 Vapor for Hockey. You guys can check out their website, i think its on the new stuff. They defintely have the vapor, which is much thinner and lighter than the normal CTi2, and it costs the same as well. I've been using mine for about 4months, and it fits pretty well under the shin pads. It has a lower profile, and so far, is the most comfortable one that i have got to date. I can even sit cross my legs opposed to my old knee braces

I also tried the Generation II 3DX. The hinges are bulky, and tend to get the oxidation layer if you dont wash it (similar to rust, but supposed to be a protective layer.. too much engineering, shall not mention further). Hinges didnt bump against my other knee, just that it was more bulky and didnt look too good under pants or jeans. Much heavier as well...

i got my acl almost completely torn in 97, had an arthroscopy and reconstruction done that same year. Went thru 6 months of rehab and physiotherapy with one aim in mind, to get back to playing hockey and soccer. Played competitively for about 6 years, until last May, when i strained my MCL during a soccer game. Didnt play anytihng for 6 months, at the same time building up leg mass and muscles again. Got the CTi2 first, but opted to go with the 3DX later (insurance coverage). used it for about 1 year and got the CTi Vapor (hockey model)

I've been wearing two Donjoys for the past 3 years. Insurance paid for both. :-) Cant recall the model, but each ran around $800 plus custom fitting. The first one I got after a MCL tear, the other after a combo MCL and 1/2 ACL tear. One I wear just as preventative medicine, the other on the ACL knee I have to wear. I must say it holds the knee together great. I have more pain walking down a flight of stairs (without the brace) than I do playing hockey with it. I should have surgery but... at my age not sure how much longer I will be playing so why go thru the months of rehab.

The Donjoy I have is very thin profile, perfect for hockey.

You should get a customised knee brace. It should be made of carbon fibre and not plastic or fibreglass. get your surgeon to recommend a brand and type of knee brace. To what extant is your PCL injury? I have a ACL injury i can`t play without a knee brace! IF ITS NOT CUSTOMISED IT REALLY DOESN`T WORK! ;)

If you're thinking of ditching your current pads, heating them up and bending them out a bit may help in the interim.

i don`t think you can get a more smaller knee brace than the cti. look at jofa or koho shin pads. are there any hockey trainers on this board semi or pro? or some one who knows a trainer?

You might have to get a pair of slightly larger pads and cut away the plastic on the bottom to adjust the length and cut away the padding on the inside where the hinge is.
