Medical Tape used for Stick Grip

Recommended Posts

About a year and a half ago, I recall someone posted a link to buy the colored medical tape that people use in lieu of TackiMac, ButtEndz, etc. for the stick grip at the top of stick/ handle. Does anyone have a link on Amazon that they use to buy these 3-5 rolls at a time, 1 inch wide? I found this, but I do not want to spend $60:

https://www.amazon.com/Co-Lastic-3-X-5-YARDS/dp/B003MY4WRI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473488085&sr=8-2&keywords=hartmann+colastic

Used it for a bit, super sticky and my stickhandling started to suffer, they sell for 3-4$ at any hockey store.

Not trying to be an ass, but are you sure you didn't put it on with the glue side up?  That stuff is not sticky at all. Unless you mean that your hand didn't slide around at all, in which case I'd agree.

The hockey specific tape can get sticky after a while.

I like to use it. I did use the medical tape before but doesn't work very well. It's not very grippy and doesn't last.

I guess if you only use the fabric tape it might get a bit sticky when it starts to break down. I use white tape on the handle, then cover it with a layer of fabric tape.  When the fabric starts to get chewed up, you just pull it off and add a fresh layer.

There is no glue on this Renfrew tape. Though it does eventually get sticky.

The nice thing though is once you have your grip the way you like it you only ever have to replace the grip tape over top.

I use this tape as well and love it. My glove palms feel like new still and aren't all gummy from regular cloth tape. I also tried TackiMac but my stick handling and shooting suffered tremendously as I couldn't really feel the puck anymore. The TackiMac took all of the "feel" out of the stick I only use a single wrap and tape the butt end and the lower part with cloth tape to keep it from coming loose.

Its called grip tape for a reason, it is grippy and much stickier compared to regular tape...I used renfrew i believe.
