Bauer Shin Guards

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to tag on to the previous shin guard thread because that seemed more on the lines of customization and my question is more for any product/brand specialists out there.

My Bauer One15 shin guards and their thin side/rear padding are not cutting it anymore, especially since I realized long ago I'm not going to score more than 10 goals a season but I will block a crap load of shots.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the newer Supremes are sized the same as models from five years ago or so, or have they made adjustments to the sizing/style since introducing the Three Family system? My One15s are 16" and I usually wear them over my skate tongues, and they fit perfectly, have never had an issue with them, so I'm hoping that picking up another size 16 will be just as comfortable.

Thanks as always.

You'll definitely want to look at the higher end models when you look, that's where you'll really see the improved protection wrapping around the calf.  As for sizing, as long as you stay within the same line it should be the same... if you go to a different style the same size might just have a different fit/feel.

I had 14" Nexus 400's.  Took a slapshot to the calf and decided to upgrade.  Ended up going with the 14" Vapor 1x.  Great calf protection.

Could you tell a big difference in fit and feel going from Nexus to Vapor?

Wrap around the leg is far superior, comfort and protection are a noticeable jump on the 1X.  No slipping, sliding or shifting anymore.  It's not tighter, it just locks your knee and shin in so well, where the Nexus was comfy because it felt wide.  No straps or velcro touching your leg or feeling weird or coming undone during gameplay.  Obviously that's going from the entry level Nexus shinguard from two generations ago to the current top of the line Vapor.  Vapor 1X also feels around the same weight or lighter, but not as bulky, if that makes sense.
