Step BlackSteel finish?

Recommended Posts

I got some BlackSteels for my Jetspeeds (size 254). They are stamped Step BlackSteel but come with a finish like a V or the normal steel ie no black coating. Is this normal? I have had BlackSteel before and they were coated so I'm really confused here. Do pros use BlackSteel uncoated (as these were from an affiliated seller of an NHL team)? Thought I'd ask here first before I ask Step.

The etch looks exactly the same. As I said, it is etched Step BlackSteel but is in a plain steel finish, uncoated.

Link here, top is an old BlackSteel, middle is velocity and bottom are these supposed BlackSteel but in a plain finish.

ps - beside the size they have stamped STPPROZ

pps - shop claims they are BlackSteel, as they are stamped. They haven't helped to clear this up and can't offer any explanation as to why they are plain yet stamped BlackSteel and they don't have any other stock left for a replacement.

The top picture of your old Blacksteel is their old coating. They have a newer "polished" Blacksteel coating now. I have the Edge Black steel and it looks like a less shiny polished coating that appears "black" but it's not actually a black coating anymore. Here's a link to the picture of mine that I've had since March. It's a little dark, but you can see the reflection of the flash and notice how they're not a heavy black coating, but more of a polish.

I just got 280's for my SB4.0 holders and they look like Step Blacksteel always has. They are a charcoal color and have a high polished finish.

mailed Step 4 days ago, no reply. Anyone got a contact address (other than info@stepskates.com) that has a Step contact at the other end?

Why won't the shop help you out with this. What you have is not proper Blacksteel from what I can see in the photo. They should know that if they have sold it before.

Brought online (from a large ebay / amazon retailer with a retail shop in Texas) and shipped to me overseas. Putting aside previous emails which claimed it was BlackSteel and fobbed me off, they have now stopped communicating about it. And even if I did get a resolution I have to deal with overseas shipping to replace.

I have had a reply from Step and provided them with additional info. I will just wait and see where it goes.
