Anyone heard of CCM steel problems?

Recommended Posts

When the Vector Pro came out last year they had SERIOUS issues with warped steel and with cracking outsoles. I don't know if this has changed in the meantime.

I get bent steel on vectors every day. Not many are fully broken but I have seen a lot with bent steel.

In terms of them breaking, same as Jimmy, no problems. The difference is that there aren't any stress points in the CCM steel as it is cut from the top, not carved out of the middle like the Bauer.

we had two with bent steel. Got them replaced, so no biggy, just a minor inconvenience.

I agree, but we don't sell them. When people come in for sharpenings and the steel is bent at a 20-25 degree angle coming out of the holder. Of course the local PIAS where they bought them say there's nothing wrong with them.

If the steel is bent, it generally caused by incorrect holder mounting, not the steel itself. I just looked through my stockpile of replacement perf CCM steel and the 12 pairs of pro's I have in stock. None were bent.

Incorrect mounting will cause it to warp, not lean over to one side. That's the problem I see on most of the Grafs and CCMs here. Skates that are one month old shouldn't be bent like that.

Chadd,

I haven't seen any leaning issues with new skates. Leaning is usually caused by skaters skating on the skates when the nuts are loose. I recommend shop employees tighten the hardware on every new skate. I find 90% of CCM nuts loose.

I'm already seeing it on skates that were x-mas presents. The PIAS "black tacks" are quite possibly one of the crappiest skates ever created.

I'll take a pic of the next ones that come in. I'm talking about the steel bending and no longer being perfectly vertical.

I inspect every pair of new skates. I have not seen any CCM's with either bent or leaning blades. I also tighten ever blade on new skates. I'm not sure why you are seeing problems, I haven't had any with CCM's. The quality is very good, unlike Bauer.

The quality hasn't been very good and that's why I don't sell them.

That's real strange, I've sold approx 2-300 Vectors of all models, and only one problem (top eyelet came out because coach tying kids skates pulled too hard).

I'd say 1 in 4 vector buyers around here have had serious lace bite problems as well. Only a handful of bad eyelets on them. Nikes are the worst for eyelet problems around here.

The crack on the holder might just be a knick, meaning it doesnt go all the way through. Plus, I noticed it way before the blade snapped. It couldnt have been a shot though, because I didn't take a shot off the foot...
