skate re-baking/re-fitting

Recommended Posts

When I first got my CCM Jetspeeds baked, the hockey store guy advised me to tie my skates "tighter than I've ever tightened them before".  Well, the forefoot area is now too tight and pushing my metatarsals together so that the middle balls of my feet are barely touching the insole.  I don't think it's affecting my skating, but it's uncomfortable and my toes go numb and ice cold by the end of the game.

Any advice on the best way to adjust the boot?

Thanks guys!

And people wonder why LHS's got out of business? It's this type of crap advice that kills the reputation of a shop. Why would you shape a moldable skate into a fit that is going to hurt your feet long term (overtightening them)? As IP said, rebake them, do them snug, the boot is meant to wrap around your foot, not clamp it in a vice.

Yeah, he was no Hans from Mighty Ducks, that's for sure.  Probably not even as good as Jan, either.

NEVER tie them the tightest you've ever tied them. Whenever you go anywhere and bake skates always tie them like you normally would. they are supposed to mold to your foot not be a literal sock.
