It sucks, they scrapped the Tampa team and put one in Miami, that make no sense as the Panthers get almost no support in south florida, where as the bolts are the Stanley Cup champs and still have plenty of support here even with the lockout. It is pretty nice to see that the average fan around here is still jonesing for some hockey, they had 14000+ watch the AHL farm team when the played a game here.

The Lightning would be dead, anyway.

They said it was a coin toss between Miami and Tampa for the one Florida team. But Miami won the coin toss.

Remember, they aren't talking about keeping the NHL. This is IF they were to start a league from scratch.

Kind of like ESPN's WHA.

I think Tampa is a better fit than Miami. In Miami you have to contend with the Heat in the NBA for corperate dollars and in Tampa you only have the Bucs. On the topic of cities, I'd also scrap Hartford in favor of Ottawa. With NY and Boston, Hartford would continue to be a weak sister to the other markets. And that brings me to...

Having salary restrictions based on gross revenues would make it difficult for smaller market teams to compete for the championship. There is a much smaller margin for error when you have a smaller budget.

IM not sure if you are refering to them making it past the lockout or in the ESPNHL, as the Bolts have the financial security to make it past the lock out, and in the case of the espn league, it would be a bad choice, Ive lived in both locations and the fact is there are just too many things that draw people away from the Panthers games, everything from S.Beach to the Heat (Shaq is the man), Tampa being a smaller city, seems to be more focused on the pro teams here in town. Also I believe the cultures are different in both cities as well. Miami is much more diverse, thus even less interest in the sport from the great white north, as the exposure just isnt there. But hey like you said, they toss a coin to write an articule, so either way. But if that was the case, Id have to move back to Ft. Lauderdale!
