Must-do hockey stuff in downtown Montreal?

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

In a few weeks, looks like we'll be spending the night in downtown Montreal on the way to the 'real' vacation in Maine.  Place is a couple blocks from the Centre Bell Sports Complex where the Canadiens play.

Anything 'must see' from a hockey (or I guess non-hockey too) standpoint?  We'll be there probably just late afternoon on a Friday until early afternoon Saturday.

not sure if there s that much to do. maybe a tour of the bell centre. there used to be a habs museum in the basement but a few years ago the canadiens tore it up to build condos next door.

Id seek out ethnic food rather than hockey stuff if I were you. vietnamese pho in and chinese food in chinatown, portuguese grilled chicken in the plateau, lebanese shish taouk all around town, etc.

There isn't really anything hockey related to do in Montreal during the Summer. Only thing is to go the Old Forum where they sort of have shrine. You'll get to see a lot of pylons too I guess.

Hockey gets put on the backburner a little in the Summer, but if you're into festivals there should be one going on. Also, if they're playing, go to an Alouettes game. Everything about them sucks though, so it will be cheap with spacious seating.

Much like other pro sports venues, it is used for other events too, concerts, expositions, etc. No ice hockey at the Bell Centre in the summer. Any pre-season ice hockey stuff to prepare for the regular season is done at their practice facility, Complexe Sportif Bell in Brossard. There's a fan gift shop on the outside of the Bell Centre to get Canadien's fan gear.
