Beflar 53 Report post Posted January 7 Just a thought: By returning to a single profile, you might be rediscovering skating moves you've performed for decades off the heel of your skates. These same moves likely don't work as well with the larger heels found on some of the newer profiles.

It doesn't feel as natural for me as say a 10'/11' combo. I have since switched to at the 9/10/11' triple that comes standard on Bladetech. I quite like it. Might be my favorite so far.

I know the Quad 0.5 jumps by 2 between zones (8-10-12-14) as apposed to 3 on the normal quads (ie. 6-9-12-15). I think the goal of the elipse was to focus on smoother transitions between the various radii.. 9-10-11' does sound cool thou, didn't know that was out there. I've found myself buying more and more of their steel these days because it appears to be one of the only options that works with both the old Tuuk and PowerFly holders. I had an old pair sitting around and totally forgot I had it so threw it on my skates. I also used my Quad 0 last night to compare. I still think that profile has huge advantages in stability and straight line skating, but I find myself having trouble doing mohawk-type maneuvers because the heel is so flat. 10' is wonderful but I don't play offense often - more so defense. I've found the 9/10/11 to be a good balance between the 10' and Quad 0 and feels very natural. I do believe the 9/10/11 has slightly more forward pitch than the Quad 0. Comparatively, the Quad 0 feels very neutral. Edited Friday at 04:11 PM by pgeorgan

Just for clarification, the Quad 0.5 (8-10-12-14) is different than a Quad 0 (6-9-11-13). Cheers,

Elite actually has their "Polaris" profile which is the Quad 0.5 with sections 3 and 4 switched with each other.

You can point a a ton of NHL players who have elite skill sets and use fairly different blades. It’s more about picking a steel profile and radius that works for you and sticking with it,and learning to maximize that, rather than constantly tinkering and fantasizing that changing the shape of your runner is gonna give you better hockey sense and make you noticeably faster. Agree. Once you feel decent in a skate/runner combo, then get your reps in. What makes you faster is training! Personally grew up using P77 or P88 mid-curves, but migrated to P28. For me it's really easy to switch back to P77 or P88, especially if I play defense I sometimes prefer them. I keep rocking a 10' profile, and found the Pulse Ti that came stock on my Hyperlites REALLY decent (Euro stock came with runners). Currently on JRZ MultiFit 10' radius, 20mm hollow. For me, the sharpness and hollow is of utmost importance. On the soft ice in Europe, I prefer more like 3/4" after 1-2 skates (not fully sharp). Cold, hard, dry ice in Alberta I go for 5/8" and full sharp is fine. All this being said I'm waiting on some runners with an Elite EL4-2 Quad profile to test out this summer 😁
