tokes 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Anyone else find it crazy that someone who hasn't learned how to take slapshots yet is using a SiCore Grip?

stevo 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 No, I see people that can barely skate using high end OPS. Guess it's just the way the sport has evolved.

Gee12 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I saw this kid (about 7 years old) at my LHS and he wanted to buy a jr. si-core because he said tha it would 'make him bettter'. Honestly, how is a 7 year old going to use an OPS to his advantage?lol :P
tokes 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I think you'll get a kick out of what happened to me today.Went to an outdoor rink to just shoot some pucks around. 2 kids there, were about 10. Both had Vector 120 OPS's. One kid skates up to me "Dude, this is the stealth! This is the one my mom is gonna get me!", so I figure i'll have some fun with him. "Yeah man, this stick is wicked. I shoot so much harder than I do with a synergy!!!!!" so hes all "wow, thats wicked" and all this trash. I ask one of em to show me his hardest slapshot. He gets off a flutterer that is barely off the ice when it hits the net, shooting it from the blueline. Here's the awesome response "Man, I can shoot so much better with my synthesis" I let the kid try out my stealth and he got all excited. "This thing shoots AWESOME, you can feel how it flexes" and all this other crap. I was like buddy, you're 11. You can't even flex this. You're going to shoot the same with wood, with a 2 piece, with a one piece, with a whatever kind of stick. The worst stick in the hands of the person with the best form will still make a better shooter than the best stick in the hands of the person with the worst form. At that point he looked like he was ready to cry, I'm pretty sure I completely crushed his spirit :P

#96 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 I remember seeing some ebay items from a guy based in Dallas for a lot of used Stars stuff (Modo, Morrow, etc). Most of his pics had this hot chick holding the stick that was being auctioned. I wonder if this is the same guy. The girl looks different. Certainly, a hot chick holding a big, long, stick, must be a good selling technique.
Racer8 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 I wouldn't have any technique either if I had distractions like that. lol. 15 of us should move to Dallas, form a C league and get all the chicks.
Jim A 4 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 15 people on a beer league team...c'mon now...the leagues down here in Big D ain't bad...the AA league in Addison is as good as any I've played in, as far as my ability will take me anyways, across the US> there's just not a lot of depth in some of them..if you skate in the Wed night league at HealthSouth in LA or a top league in Mass..yeah..it'll be easy..but if not..there are so many transplants down here already...and so many rinks (I think I have about 8-9 within a 20min drive) you can always find a game..although sometimes with pickup at so many places..it takes some effort to find where people are going
Racer8 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 I didn't mean to insult the integrity of the Dallas hockey community, but Jim how many people are on your beer league team? 15=4/5 defense, 9 offense, 1 goalie. Everyone I play with can take a decent slapshot. Laser it to the upper left corner? Well, no, but growing up in MN, you have to be able to skate backwards in order to get a drivers license. And if I had a blonde like that, well, I'd dismiss myself from men's league for "understandible inattendance."
Jim A 4 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 I wasn't insulted by any means..most beer league teams i play on have 8-10 players..13 on the roster..10 who show..8 on a bad day...I don't think I'd know what to do if I wasn't playing every other shift..i was just pointing out that in these non traditional hockey areas (I've lived in Tampa, DFW and So Cal so far)..that the level of hockey is pretty high...and it has surprised me on more than one occasion
