Radien55 8 Report post Posted Monday at 05:33 PM How much longer are your P90TMs compared to your P29s? I presume you came from the P29/92 to the P90TM and as the lie is lower, I'm curious what adjustments to stick length you have made to make it work, or if you keep them the same length. As for the measurement, are we talking straight up against a wall or do you measure top to heel?
malcb33 107 Report post Posted Monday at 10:34 PM I went from a P88 to the P90TM. Big thing for me was the lower lie of the P90TM. At the end of the day, the length-to-lie ratio will be personal preference, but for me it's 1" for every .5 of a lie. Lie goes up, the stick gets shorter and vice versa
Sniper9 566 Report post Posted Monday at 11:51 PM Lie makes a difference for sure. If it's the same lie, I've tested both measuring and cutting to match heel to end of stick and standing tall. Like you said, blade length does affect standing length. Unfortunately from my experience it just depends how it feels overall since there so many variables when it comes to changing and trying different curve patterns. For me, even a 1/4" difference in the exact same stick and curve affects how I stickhandle. I wish I wasn't so sensitive to such a small change. 😔. My advice is to be on the safe side and leave the new curve a bit longer than what you have and slowly cut it shorter and shorter until it feels comfortable, but the reality is that regardless whether it's the "right" height, there will be an overall adjustment period with the new curve due to lie, rocker, toe shape, overall curve shape differences. I personally have a hard time getting used to blades that don't have the same rocker as the p28. I love the versatility of the blade shape and rocker. I think my ideal blade would be a p28 shape with a Hossa pro curve. I really like the hossa pro but wish it had more rocker.
cougarscaptain87 15 Report post Posted Tuesday at 06:06 PM I came from a p91/p91a and like mentioned before if the lie is .5 different I will adjust the length by about an inch, lower lie = longer stick. The blade shape and rocker also seem to effect the length I prefer, for the p90tm I can use it a bit longer than a p91 due to the toe having the shaved profile on the bottom.
xstartxtodayx 356 Report post Posted Tuesday at 09:46 PM I never liked P92/29, I went from P28 to P90TM and haven't looked back... the larger blade area (and more square toe) with less rocker and less open toe makes it a more tame and forgiving P28 imo. As far as lie I haven't noticed a diff, prob b/c the P28 was a funky hybrid lie or whatever they marketed it as and with the rocker it kind of played a bit different.

A 1/4" to 3/8" change can make a big difference. This is a positive, not a negative. It means you have come a long way in fine-tuning your gear and are highly in tune with your "instrument", the muscle memory is set. I remember a pro player saying a 3/8" difference would throw him off completely. I have a P29 that's 3/8" shorter than my main stick and it's fun to play with a shorter stick but I notice my stick handling at speed suffers because it forces me to carry the puck closer to my body. I understand that no amount of length compensation can make it feel the same. You either A) make it longer so your top hand is at the same height, but now the puck is further away from you. or B) Keep the same length so the puck distance is the same, but now your top hand is awkward and has to be much lower. or C) Some kind of compromise between the two. I bought a few P90TMs a couple of years ago and cut two of them to different lengths, one is 1/4" (that's ironic, they actually are 1/4" apart, I just measured them) shorter than the other. I mainly play with P29s, but I bring them out every three months and there are periods where I love it followed by periods where I hate it. I still have not come far enough in fine tuning the length, partly because after a couple of "oopsies" during games I quickly switched back to the P29. Interesting! 1" seems like a lot, I was expecting answers in the ballpark of 1/2". My P90TMs were 3/8" and 5/8" longer than my P29. I might have to go back to the drawing board and try 1". I taped up a third stick 1" longer, I will bring it and try.
Westside 261 Report post Posted yesterday at 04:53 AM Hmmm… I may have to give this a try. I like a longer twig on D, but cut my zegras the same height as a P88. Will cut off an inch and see if it changes how I feel about the curve
