Is there much diff in Bauer half sizes?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Is there much difference between a Bauer XX 9.5 and a full 9? I usually take a 9 even but have come accross a really cheap pair at my LHS in 9.5 would there be much of a diff?

cheers! :D

We fit the kids 1/2 size big as a routine and they have no problems. Put the skate on and kick your toe all the way forward in the skate. If you have more than 1 index finger behind the heel, the skates are too big and will likely cause pain and blistering.

Not to mention that a half size bigger will lead to premature breakdown. Unfortunately, the majority of players are not fit properly.

So true. I can't believe how many people wear skates that are simply too big for them. When trying on new pairs, they don't seem to take into account the effects of breaking skates in... they'll stretch out a little bit; the ankle pads will soften and allow for more room; new skates force your feet forward, cramming your toes into the end of the caps...

The finger's-width-of-room works well when fitting kids, it generally allows enough room for about a year's worth of growth. But if your feet are done growing, buy a tight-fitting skate! Breaking in, and baking if applicable, will give you more room in the skates.

I wear 8090's in a 7.5 and when I tried on an 8, the difference between the 7.5's and 8's were like night and day. If you wear a 9 and 9's fit you like a glove, then going a half size up will give you lot's of blisters, foot pain, and it will just be pretty bad. I've come across a ton of awesome deals on skates where I can get new synergies a half size bigger or smaller than what I wear for only $299 (on eBay) but I always pass up the deal because they simply will not fit me. Getting a good deal does not stop blisters and foot pain.

When comparing skates for comfort, the bigger skate will always "feel" more comfortable. I always have a hard time convincing customers that the smaller size is the right size.
