Wis. Man Says Beer Choice Cost Him Job

RACINE, Wis. (AP) - A man may have found out firsthand just how nasty the competition is between the world's two biggest beermakers.

Isac Aguero, 24, said he was fired from his job with a Miller Brewing distributor, the same day a picture appeared in The Journal Times of Racine of him drinking a Bud Light, which is brewed by Anheuser-Busch Co.

The photo, taken Feb. 5, was part of the newspaper's weekly ``On the Town'' feature, which depicts the city's night life.

Aguero, who had been a forklift operator at CJW Inc. for four years, told the newspaper he was informed by co-workers when he arrived at work Monday that he was in trouble because of the picture.

He said he was called into the general manager's office and told he was fired. Aguero said he was not given a reason and claimed he never had problems with his bosses.

``It was a Saturday and I wasn't at work,'' he told The Journal Times. ``They can't tell me what beverages I can drink.

``Bud Light's my beer of choice, I always drink that. Just because I work there, do I have to change what I drink?''

Thomas Bey, a CJW sales manager, read a statement to The Associated Press Friday and would not answer any questions. He said the company does not publicly discuss past or present employees.

Repeated calls Friday by The Associated Press to the phone number listed for Aguero went unanswered.

I think AB needs to step up and give him a job...

That would be a classy move........not to mention it would get them some good publicity.

Someone drinks that intentionally? Usually guys only drink it if they're broke and it's cheaper for happy hour. Unless it identified his employer or he was in uniform in the article, he should have grounds for a lawsuit.

I dont think he has grounds for a lawsuit. Im sure companies can fire you for anything they want except race and gender. Not to mention they could say it was because of something else...

You can be fired for no reason at all but not for a bad reason. For them to have fired him so quickly after the article with no history of problems, they will have some serious explaining to do.

Seems fishy to me...I mean, I work at a radio station. If my boss happens to be in the car with me and my radio is on another radio station...he's gonna fire me...C'mon.

I mean show up at work wearing a Bud Light t-shirt or something you may have grounds for discipline, but the guy drives a forklift in a warehouse (by the sounds of it) not like he's their main spokeman or the President of the company or anything.

I worked for Company "A", who didn't sell product in a particular category as our competitor's, Company "B", and yet, one of our reps had their "product" sawed in half as a fun thing/"hint" that using any product from Company B was a no-no.

From what I remember, the rep wasn't too happy about it.

He didn't get fired, but, it was interesting as I used that same product two years prior with blacked out logos.

JR? Know who I'm talkin about?

This is why Britney Spears was fired from pepsi. She was caught drinking snapple, a coke product.

This is different. She was not a worker of the company. She was an endourser. She had a contract, which I can say 99.9% said that she cannot consume a non pepsi product (or especially a coca cola product) in public. They had grounds to fire her, under breach of contract.

This guy will have a law suit (at least under NJ law, but most are similar) he was fired wrongfully, with absolutley no reason.

Yeah I would think he's got some grounds for an unlawful termination and could be entitled to some compensation. The thing is though he better have lived a clean life and been a perfect employee or he won't win any case. But I would guess he would get some hush money to just go away and not make a big stink of it all.

Down here it's sadly the beer of choice, but if people want to get cheap they go with Natty Light. I still don't see how I get looks from people who drink that when I bust out my Cheapstone Light when I'm slumming it.
