kor hockey skates

There's been a fair bit of talk of these recently. They are from the Calgary area. I believe United Cycle has or had them and one member quoted them at a little under the high end skate range (XXX and Synergy).

Assuming the pricing they mentioned at the show is accurate, we should have them for around $479 when they are delivered. As of now, we don't expect to see them until june or so.

There have been changes to the design as recently as December. I can't imagine paying that much for prototypes.

Thats what I thought at first. Why pay more than Vapor XX for "no name" skates that IMO look like crap.

Ditto SeanMccann, when I saw them at United I had no idea what they were, and never had seen them being marketed to the general public. I thought that the 649 price tag was pretty steep too.. . But until someone tries them out, that's up in the air.

Well, they must have been on to something. The whole uni-body carbon boot is the premise behind Easton's Synnergy skate, and it would seem that Kor was at least working out the idea long before the Synnergy skate officially came out.

I personally could care less what the skate looks like (I never pay attention to people's skates), but I don't think they look horrendous. They sort of remind me of a cross between the old Mega Skates, the Externo, and the Vector.....

Regardless, I'd try them. They've got an interesting sales pitch, and the video behind their theory is interesting. BUT.... I agree. That's a lot of $$ to dish out for something that hasn't been around that long. It'll be interesting to see how the industry reacts.

in the FWIW dept..the guy behind the Kor skate, Tony Meibock has been working with carbon fiber and creating/designing skates for decades now...including working on various speed skates that have graced numerous world and Olympic champions..

the design on the Kor boot is similar to a high end long track skate in that it uses a completely heat moldable carbon shell as the foundation...and it also has a varying degree of stiffness as you go up through the boot..that same basic tenet is the cornerstone of the Kor boot..other company(s) that utilize a carbon shell that isn't heat moldable are dipping into their proprietary cycling tubing..

plus i hate to admit it..but the toe glove is comfy!!

At my LHS, they had a pair instock. I live in Calgary, and we've had them since beginning of September last year. They seem to be really low-cut, but the really neat thing about them is that they have a spandex-like toe support inside the toe cap. I wouldn't recommend these skates becuase of the awful feedback from a few of my friends who tried them.

I just tried the skate and Im pretty impressed. Their using the new Mission pitch 3 blade holder...I guess Bauer wasn't too happy with them using the Tuuk. But I was told the people at Mission were more then happy to help them out ..so thumbs up for Mission! Im coming from a Graf 709 skate and with the Kor being a low cut skate..fit me great with just as much support as the 709's without the bulkiness of the 709's.

The price of the skates....well there in the same range as the Victor pro, Vapor XXX, and Graf G series. Only other down side I can think of is the non removable foot bed, and the very small tendon guard on the back of the skate.

I'll post some pic if anyone is interested.

Post away, if you can....

How's the ankle flex? From the video on their website, it looks like everyone's skating Frankenstein style.

I found the ankle flex better then the Graf 709....its a lower cut boot, but you have more support in key areas. It takes a bit of getting used to that's prob why they were skating like Frankenstein.

i went to a lhs that my friend worked at today, and they had some of the old kor skates with the tuuks on them, it tried them on and they didnt feel too bad. one thing i didnt like about them is in the front of the skate there is like a sponge that forms to your feet when you put it in. its a very awkward feeling. other than that they didnt look bad. other than the 650 dollar price tag, but they were on for 30% off. so they were like 455.
