Moore files lawsuit

Recommended Posts

Last time I checked in the rule book, a knee to the head wasn't a considered a clean hit.

it still isn't.....but like the man said, go study the hit for a while in slow motion..objectively.

Hockey is not played in slow motion. To review any situation in slow motion is not entirely fair, you will find things to make it look whatever way you want.

Steve Moore is lucky he didn't get any suspensions, not even a penalty, for that cheap shot on Markus Naslund. Last time I checked in the rule book, a knee to the head wasn't a considered a clean hit. Steve Moore, who cares, not like he had much of a future anyway. I would only expect him to become a farm player at most.

Knee to the head? What game were you watching?

And i'm sure just about every guy on these boards would kill to become a "farm player at most". Being able to earn your living playing hockey isn't something that many people take for granted. If what Bertuzzi did costs Moore his livelihood, he has every right to be financially compensated.

I know alot of you are young and Moore would probably not be even close to an elite player but does anyone remember what Bert was like with the Isles?

I would argue Berts hockey future at the time was less then rosey. To say he was a less than servicable player is an understatement.

Through hard work and development he turned it around. Didnt Moore deserve the same chance? For those who like to bring up the Moore / Naslund hit I would argue Ruttu's cheap shotS on Forsberg that same game was alot worst. Remember Forsberg was out longer than Naslund.

No class. When the NHL does come and they play Colorado he'd better keep his head up because he just made himself a marked man. What the hell is he thinking, hockey already has a major league black eye and he come out with a comment that will get picked up by news outlets who couldn't care less about the game.

If Naslund's right, nobody on Colorado will care about what he said.

The worst that will happen when any Canuck comes to Colorado is that they get booed. MAYBE some moron throws a beer on one of them.

I would like to think that the Avs and its fans can display more class.

As passionate a fan as I am of the game of hockey, I am continuously embarrassed for the sport .....between the actions of Bertuzzi, this latest callous response from Naslund, the joke of the recent negotiations, the actions of the likes of Brashear and Richards in the NAHL recently, the list goes on...and on..and on....

As a sport which craves credibility, the repeated gaffs of the collective sport/industry in the past year or so, continue to make the would be nay sayers for the sport, all the more smug in their belief that hockey does not belong on the main stage of sports entertainment, but in a "side show" somewhere.

Maybe it's the nature of the game itself, which has at it's core a reputation for depending more on emotion than reason for success. Maybe too many within the industry feel that "dropping the gloves" as a first reaction to adversity, is the correct one...maybe, just maybe, the whole sport has to re-think, or should I say choose reason, over the gut jerk reaction that seems always to be the first response in hockey. Maybe that's why "heady" players like Gretzky, Lemieux and Howe....were among the greatest to ever play the game....

I dont want to argue about Moore's check on Naslund.

But there is one think I know for sure :

ATTACKING SOMEONE IN THE BACK IS UNACCEPTABLE

It's not sport anymore, its deliberate assault.

So it must be managed by sport AND civil authorities.

Therefore the lawsuit is an adequate response.

By the way : 1 season suspension for Bert was a pure joke.

2 season would have been a minimum and a pure ban would have been an option.

Does that mean an intentional hit from behind should be handled by the courts? It's just a vicious and could be fatal. Is his 1 year suspension was joke what about Johnsons? I DO NOT AGREE WITH BERT'S ACTIONS, however I don't think its right for him to be thrown up on the cross while others get off without a scratch.

I also think Naslunds comments were made because of the number of people Moore has brought in. If it was just Bertuzzi and he got X amount of cash from him, then it'd be something, but this is a cash grab IMO.

If other people talk about getting even for two weeks then jump a guy from behind, I'm in favor of putting them on a cross right next to Bert. As for the Naslund article, what an arrogant ass.

I think what some people are missing is that Bert's / Canucks actions crossed the code. It was in fact planed and done cowardly.

Those two actions do in fact call for action outside of the game.

My opinion of course but hey I like to think people should be accountable for this kind of stuff.

Todd Bertuzzi attacked him from behind with intent to injure, PERIOD. Personally, I cannot understand how all the people defending him can justify their position. I keep hearing If He didn't this, or if he didn't that... if my Aunt had a dick she'd be my uncle. Its like the drunk who kills someone while driving home and uses the defence of being too intoxicated to realize they were driving.

If what happened to Steve Moore was done to you I guess you'd just say "its part of the game".... Horse$hit

Let me give you two examples of the correct way to use "the code"

Case 1:

Claude Lemuiex / Chris Draper - we all know what happened here. "Clowde" got the crap kicked out of him several times against the wings.

Case 2:

Ulfie Samulesson / Neely - A cheap hit by Ulfie cost Cam his career. Many a time Cam confronted Ulfie just to have him back down. Keep in mind Cam NEVER cheap shoted him or had others ... errrrr Naslund ... do the dirty work.

That folks is the CODE.

Naslund's an idiot. Bert ended what would have been a profitable career for Moore, what else is Moor supposed to do? He can't play hockey anymore and he has a degree, but I highly doubt he'll make as much money doing anything as he would have made playing hockey. He has a right to his compensation.

Also, what's Naslund doing if not "trying to make some money" over in Europe. Oh, yeah, he's playing for his hometown Modo, but would he do it for free? How about the Nucks, would he play for them for free.

I'm thinking that Cross and Naslund should be suing their respective education systems right about now.

Back in the day, there was a young rookie who, in his first game against Gretzky (in his heyday with the Oilers) laid a good hit on the Great One. It was the last game he ever played in the NHL.

Debate will continue about Moore's hit, and the unfortunate events that followed. Should a rookie have hit one of the stars of the game like that? I don't think so. I can see the justification for the Bertuzzi lawsuit. I cannot buy into the part about suing everybody else on the list.

How would debate look if Naslund's neck had been broken?

How many times did Moore fight Canuck players before Bertuzzi got him? I recall twice, but I guess that's not payback enough... <_<

The first time was in the game the incident happened, the second game was a close one the Avs won, but neither team wanted to take a bad penalty. The third game he fought Matt Cooke, then the Bertuzzi incident happened...

Moore didn't having anything more to prove by fighting Bertuzzi in a lop-sided game, he'd already fought twice as 'payback'.

For being a pro player that is supposed to be able to make excellent split-second decisions, Bertuzzi was seeing red and failed miserably at that point.

MDE3 has made points I would echo as well. Well stated.

It wouldn't have been a premeditated thing, though. Also, Moore's hit was clean. Bertuzzi freaking punched Moore in the head from behind, after Moore fought a Canuck, no less. The whole incident was retarded and Bertuzzi, as well as many of the Canucks, are freaking morons. Of course, Granato was no smarter in leaving Moore on the ice, but that's another story.

Who else was Granato going to put on the ice with Moore?

Oh yea Worrell! <_<

As far as hitting stars ... Naslund is no Gretzky. Not even close.

I guess Forsberg should never be hit as well.

No one is questioning whether or not the Canucks should have gone after Moore. The cowardly way they went about it is the issue.

Wuss out #1: Wait to go to Vancouver to do something.

Wuss out #2: May going after Abby - What is up with that?

Wuss out #3: Crawford ... well thats just his way.

Wuss out #4: The whole hit from behind.

Wuss out #5: The rest of the Nucks trying to start a brawl.

I think part of the whole thing was Cawford trying to get his team over the hump to finally beat Colorado. Short answer "p" envy.

Other than the five above points I feel they handled it just fine.

At least Moore will have a profitable career if hockey isn't in his future. He did graduate from Harvard and all. I mean, I dont know many people who went there who don't do just fine. Most other hockey players (almost all) can't say the same thing.

From what I've read his symptoms are preventing him from leading anything resembling a normal life to this point. He may never be able to have a profitable career doing anything.

ok id frist like to start by saying i think todd bertuzzi is a good guy and a good hockey player but what is did was uncalled for, i mean a sucker punch to the head no need. but steve moore fileing a lawsuit at this time with the way the nhl is going down the tubes and to include brian burke and orca bay sports in the lawsuit is stupid. steve moore could have prevented the sucker punch .. matt cooke wanted to fight him in that game and moore wouldnt go. if they would of fought i dont think any thing else would have happened.
