CCM EBlade problems

Recommended Posts

I've had my Externos since about August, and today after i got them sharpened I was fiddling with the blade, and I notice that with my hand I could move the blade side to side in the holder, and it would make a cracking type noise. I quickly went home, got out the wrench and plyers to tighten up the blades, and when I did, all four bolts were tight as can be.

My question is, is this normal, or is something wrong with my skates? I never noticed this until now, so to me it seemed like a problem.

This is normal. They don't tighten them enough at the factory. All you need to do is tighten them, and you will have no problems.

But the thing about mine is they're about 7 months old. Whenever I tighten them i tighten them as tight as i can torque, but the blade still moves side to side.

The thing about that is no one around here could do it, and I doubt I'd be able to send it to a guy like you JR. But we'll see, I'll PM you if I need any help. My seasons about over so if I plan on keeping these skates for next season I'll deffinently send them to you JR. Just a question, would i have to buy holders and send them to you with the skates, or do you provide to new holders and I just pay for them?

I've heard of Zwickers in boston, isnt there another one, also Where is No-Icing?

Edit- Will Lightspeeds or LS2's fit in the same holes as Eblades?

How much exactly? Will it be a lot or a small fee? Or does it depend on the shop? Sorry for all the questions but new skates are out of the question so I need to salvage these skates.

If the nuts are tight and the blade still is moving, then as JR said, it's probably the holder. Before you get them replaced, to remove the slop, on the rear hole, try shiming a piece of metal on the side of the female nut. Then put the screw in. I sometimes use a clip from a pen, cuting off a small piece with a dremel. Sometimes it works.

Zwickers is actually in Bedford, MA on Route 4. Another place to try is at the Chelmsford Forum just off Rte. 3. The Wheelers do great sharpenings and I've had steel swapped by them before. If you're further north there is a place just off Rte. 28 in Salem, NH called TSR Sports. The guy who runs that worked at Zwickers for years before going off on his own.
